a group in maths soon if they continue to work hard and at the level they have been showing, that they should do just this.

Dd was criticised last year for not producing enough work to show how capable she is in maths.

So from day one of the new school year she has been working her butt off to demonstrate how good she is. By the beginning of week 3 of the term her teacher told me in front of her that should she continue to work as well as she has, that they would have to move her up to the top group.

In her end of term maths assessment she achieved 81% but on returning to school has remained in the same group as before.

Dd is not very happy and is questioning what the point in her working hard. Obviously, I am going the you are working hard for your own personal reward not for class recognition.

However, I do kind of feel that the teacher should do as she says or not have said anything at all.

Should I mention anything to the teacher or just allow my dd to become disenchanted and risk her loosing enthusiasm to work.

what percentage did the other children in the top group get? if it is a lot higher that 81% then perhaps the teacher hasn't moved her for that reason.

But you really won't know if there is a good reason she hasn't been moved up if you don't ask the teacher.

Hi scarlettsmummy - dd knows that she did better than at least 2 children in the top group, a case of whatdidyougetitis.

How to broach the subject with the teacher is the thing - don't want to appear 'how dare you not move my dd up a group'. Just want a relaxed approach just don't know what would be best.

I think you just ask if it's possible given that she is doing so well. It may be that the staff discuss moves every so often and that meeting hasn't occurred or it may depend on numbers in the groups above or whether the teacher of the top group feels that there is anyone in her group who needs to move down. One test result may not be enough. You won't know if you don't ask.

"In light of the fact that minitreas did well in her test and has been working really hard this term do you think it feasible to try her in the other group?".

Thanks for responding cansu and Iamnotminterested agree this is the way to go - sometimes just needs an outsiders input.
