I am getting a bit concerned about the progress in my year 2 dss writing. Apart from now being consistent with his capital letters and full stops, and having better handwriting I don't see any improvement from this time in year 1. Back then his teacher was raving about his writing, said it was well above average at the end of year 1. He has the same teacher this year and i think he is getting away with doing the bare minimum while teacher concentrates on those struggling. I have mentioned my concerns to the teacher (in a nice way), but not much has changed. How can i help him to improve by doing bits with him at home? Are there any workbooks that are any good? Any advice welcome. I probably need to get a life, but i am feeling frustrated about this most days. I know school is not just about the academic stuff and he is very happy, but i do want to see some progress this year.

Have you seen this leaflet? The writing activities are quite useful. Also these games.

Thank you so much for those links. It feels so good to get some advice. I really want to help him progress and enjoy writing but didn't really know where to start. Feel very irritated with his teacher that she does not feel to need to encourage him to do more, but i have a feeling nothing will change this year. Hopefully i can encourage him at home.

Without knowing him and his work it isn't really possible to tailor advice to the child but in general therm the ideas should help.
