My reluctant reader (now 13 and pretty fluent), at the park, under the slide, read:

I.S. - is

A. - a

W.A.N.K.E.R. - wan...ker

WHAT IS A WANKER, MUMMY? [hblush] [hgrin]

...and at least I know he hasn't just remembered it from the books.

Feel quite proud and am tempted to tell his teacher.

are these classed as high frequency words?

dd sounded out c*nt from a mumsnet thread title once. the apostrophe makes no difference when sounding out. had to be very careful since.
