It is brilliant when they start to get it, isn't it?

Blending the S and H is quite advanced really. Far moved on from just 'sounding out'. Gold star territory Grin

My reluctant reader (now 13 and pretty fluent), at the park, under the slide, read:

T.O.M. - Tom

I.S. - is

A. - a

W.A.N.K.E.R. - wan...ker

WHAT IS A WANKER, MUMMY? [hblush] [hgrin]

...and at least I know he hasn't just remembered it from the books.

Feel quite proud and am tempted to tell his teacher.

dd sounded out c*nt from a mumsnet thread title once. the apostrophe makes no difference when sounding out. had to be very careful since. Blush

What great news! That should encourage more reading Grin

Reminds me of the Blackadder when Dr Johnson's dictionary is immediately picked up by all, to look for the rude words....

My ds at the age of 3 was being supervised by my sister at the park when he pointed to the slide and announced 'that says FUCK!'

PML at my sister's look of horror and panic on how to deal with it.

I just turned round to him and said 'Yes, that's right - well done'.
