Hi all
I went to my sons parents evening yesterday and was told that by the end of the year he would be predicted
Reading 2a
Maths 2b
Writing 2c
Not sure how this balances out for him. But I was wondering looking at these predictions can anyone predict what he would get by the time he leaves Year 6. Does any major changes happen during the juniour years were it will have an affect on his end results.
I am asking because I would like him to go for grammar school and sit the exams for them.
I'm just wondering if he wOuld be capable in sitting them?

Thanks

lovingthecoast: then I am glad I do not live in such an area.

Living in a grammar school area can be very stressful especially when the alternative to the grammars can, in some cases, be dire.

I just don't think the OP is being unnecessarily pushy to start considering the options now if she lives in such an area. She sounds as though she is trying to make sure she plans appropriately for her child rather than push him down the grammar route if he isn't suited to it. That sounds very sensible to me.

Sorry kardashian- I was suggesting he was new to the country due to the way you write, and your name (?Iranian) - I was mistaken (though not sure why it offends you- what's wrong with being new to the country? Confused).

You're not thinking way too far ahead (though I wouldn't for a minute suggest tutoring from this age!)- those levels are only a prediction, and his learning could exceed that quite easily if you put in lots of support at home.

FWIW My DH couldn't read until 8 or 9, and if they'd had KS1 levels in those days, he'd have likely been W and 1. He got 4 As at A level, and a 1st class degree. Children all develop at different rates.

You say his writing was poor last year due to his age- does he need to work on fine motor skills/pencil control, or is it the actual structure of the language he needs to work on? Either way, look at what he's doing, talk to his teachers about what they think he needs to work on, and go for it. If there's a specific area he needs to improve in, there's bound to be a thread on here about it, or start another for support. Smile

Captain Nancy I think kardashians name may relate more to a reality show /celeb more than iranian roots Hmm

frightstick Here is a link to the National Curriculum pages... the levels go up from W (working towards a level 1) to EP (exceptional performance, above a level 8).

In primary school in England, it is expected that most 7yo (end of Key Stage One (KS1), end of Y2) will attain a level 2B in Reading, Writing and Mathematics, and at the end of Key Stage Two (KS2) (age 11, end of Y6) they will attain Level 4 in English, Mathematics and Science (teacher assessment, no longer a test). Children are expected to make 2 levels of progress from KS1 to KS2, so if a child achieved level 1s in each subject at KS1, you'd expect them to get to Level 3 at End of KS2 to be making expected progress.

The levels are broken down into 3 sub-levels- A, B, and C, with a 2C being lower than a 2A (so kardashian's DS is expected to be working at a higher level in Reading than in Writing- quite common).

Of course children often don't progress through the sub-levels in a uniform manner, due to so many factors affecting their learning- like anything, these are just generalised.

mrz- oh, sorry, over my head.

Yes its from the reality show. Too funny thread lol my ds is not going to be pushed I just wanted to see for the future whether he could sit tests. Personally it is alot of pressure an I don't want to put him under any un necessary pressure.
I love the Iranian thought tho lol
