South Norwood primaries? Which are good?

The once that we could apply by distance are St. Thomas Becket (catholic), St. Chad's (catholic), Ryelands, South Norwood primary, Monks Orchard, Heavers Farm. St Thomas Becket is meant to be outstanding, but it is very strict, and I wonder if my temperamental boy will be happy there. Ofsted reports are not bad for all of them. I am still due to visit the schools, but if anyone could share an experience, it would be very welcome.

I went to secondary school (Coloma) with many girls who had been to Thomas Becket. It was a great school with a great rep, in my day. But my day was very long ago.....

Hi confused person - I've no experience unfortunately, but also in South Norwood and doing the rounds of local primaries at the moment. Sounds like you might be the opposite end of Portland Road to us? We're off S.Norwood Hill. Went to see Heavers Farm today and was impressed - sounds like they've been a rough school in the past but have worked hard to turn things around. I'm due to visit S. Norwood Primary in early November. I haven't looked into St Chads, St Marks, or St Thomas Becket, as we're not religious and I've just presumed we wouldn't get in. And I think we're probably out of catchment for the other schools you mention. I've heard Ryelands is a good school, though. Anyway, just lending you my support, really - it's a big decision, isn't it!

My nieces are at St chads and seem to be doing really well.

Thanks for replies. So far I have seen Monks Orchard (liked) and St Chad's (less so, but OK). I also have heard good things about Heavers Farm (missed the open day, unfortunately) and Ryelands, and also noticed that South Norwood results are fast improving after the latest Ofsted inspection.
I just wonder, if most of the schools are OK, and I don't get into the only one outstanding St Becket's, how do I choose?
Some people referred to me as getting the right or wrong feeling about the school they have chosen, but I haven't got any so far...
