...and if so is it in their class?
I want to help in school with DS year 2 and DD YR. I have been asked to help in year 1 listening to children read. I don't want to sound selfish, but I am a working mum with 2 mornings to spare, so if I am going to give up a morning then I want it to be for MY children.
I helped in DS's class last year, no problems etc being there.
What do you do?

Can't you listen to your own dc read at home?

lol @ Hully-I though it was just me!

it's been a few years for me- do Y5 classes need parental help?

looking forward to getting in there again when dd starts in reception in 2013, oh yes

I go in most years when yrs 3 and 4 are doing a 'healthy bodies' topic. (I am a GP)

We have a fab time talking about healthy foods and exercise, and looking in each other's ears and eyes and listening to heart sounds...best is sewing up the lacerated grapefruit head with 'proper' stitches.

I started it when my oldest DC was in yr3, but had such fun I keep coming back for more....

No, I don't help at DD's school as I am a teacher there.

Our paths don't often cross (she is in Y2, I am a KS2 teacher) but I occasionally see the back of her head.

I help with reading at once a week and used to help is the class that my DD1 was on the waiting list for (waiting at another school) because Y2 needed help. Didn't resent it; DD2 was in Reception and lots of other parents were helping with her, so I just felt I was doing my bit (and I had already offered my help in DD1s school as well). DD1 did get into the local school, and I have continued helping in Y2 (where I have no kids).

I reckon you help your children more by showing willing, not by modelling how to be a selfish.
