Sunhats and Raincoats

DS starts Nursery tomorrow and I've realised there are two things I never asked about.

Firstly DS has always worn a sunhat when outside with us and the nursery were strict on this too. DS is very fair haired. I've bought him a cap and named it, but what usually happens with hats??

Kinda the same with rain coats. Of course if it is raining / rain forecast he will have a coat but what happens if it rains on an otherwise warm day?? Will they still go out to play?? DS will be going to an after school club at another school. They told me he will go by minibus but his teacher said they go by walking bus, so will I need to leave a raincoat at school for this??

Arrrggggghhhhh!! This is too late to be stressing!

If you are in the UK I wouldn't worry too much about the sun hat until next spring.

Re the raincoat; what has happened for us at school/nursery if that if the rain is light/drizzly then the children go out for a short while. (so a raincoat is useful for these occasions and of course on the way to and from school). In case of heavy rain, they tend to have "wet" i.e. indoor play.

Not sure re the walking/mini bus. In your position I would ring and clarify with the actual club.

I just roll a waterproof up in Dd3's bag. I used to tell the Teacher/playgroup leader that it was in there but she is old enough to know if she needs a coat now.

in the UK a waterproof may be needed any day of any term, most schools/ preschool with playground will try and get teh kids out side every day regardless of drizzle or showers, send a waterproof coat in every day.
DS has a sunhat in his bag everyday, somedays he uses it some days not.

I got a cheap navy cagoule that can easily be stuffed into a school bag fir ant days with unexpected rain.

I've found that schools are OK about policing sunhats; if you become concerned that yours doesn't do this adequately, go and seen the teacher to reinforce the point about the long term health risks to the very fair-skinned.

We have to send a raincoat every day, and a sunhat + sunscreen every day of the summer term. When they were little the school definitely insisted on common sense use of both Grin

(Dd's school has a nursery class, so they start the term after they are 3, the teacher and TA are absolute miracles of patience and organisation!)

Agree a light weight cagoule style raincoat that lives permanently in your dcs schoolbag is helpful for changeable weather. But don't do what I did when dd was small and discover after they have been wearing it for a term that it is not waterproof in any way whatsoever Blush

our nursery had a supply of waterproofs for outdoor play when it was raining so we didnt need to supply everything.
