Can schools still have a long, drawn-out induction to reception?

Just starting to think about schools for my DD who will start next September. I will want her to go to the local school and should have no problem getting in. But I've just heard about their induction process:

Wk1: In for one day as a taster
Wks 2 and 3: Mornings only
Wks 4 and 5: Afternoons only
Wk6: Full time.

I thought I had read on here that schools should now offer full time starts for those that want it? Or was that just wishful thinking?

DD already does full days at nursery 3 days a week and will be more than ready to start full time next september.

I didn't, in 1977 I started on half days for a term, christms start as a July baby.

I don't believe that 1/20 kids doesn;t receive FT childcare; so many people use famillies, share with their DPs, are SAHP, only work pt..... I'd be surprised if the majority have experienced it on a regular basis let alone that high a number!

DS1 and ds2 could ahve gone FT from day one, ds3 could most certainly of not- he has Sn but was included in a MS environment and started in January PT until Easter. DS4 we shall see, could go either way next eyar.

All have been in childcare for various lengths of time- whole days, mixed with my Mum, whatever; yet tehy varied so much.

cat64 - it't not just about the curriculum. School is a big change from nursery and a lot for little ones to get used to.

Yes some children cope doing full days but many wouldn't, especially summer born ones. It's not going to harm the former doing part time to start for a few weeks, it's hardly the end of the world.
