Has anyone used reading eggs. Is it worthwhile?

yes, both DSs had 6 month membership. It was quite good - DS1 was in reception, and reading eggs was at the right level for halfway through reception when we started it, but he was on ORT level 9 at the end of the year and had got bored with reading eggs and had overtaken the content.

DS2 was in his preschool year when he started it. He finished all the maps and really enjoyed the games. Thanks in part to reading eggs, he now reads quite well.

Some of the games are a bit repetitive and annoying. The site has a 5-week free trial so it's worth doing that to see if your child likes it.

Thanks. I think maybe my dc will find it too easy than. Youngest about to go into year 1 and reading quite well. Purple I think.

I think its games etc online which help with reading. I had an email inviting me to take a 2 week trial.

I love love love Reading Eggs! My two boys (one in Kindergarten and one in year one) have used this site for about 18 months. I am a teacher and it is a quality program rather than being a commercial rip-off. The early lessons focus on single sounds, so yes they may look repetitive to an adult but that is not how my boys experienced it. There are new lessons being added at the top end all the time, and my year one son has started using the 'story factory' to type stories. I would thoroughly recommend this program- no, I am not paid to say this! But there are so many educationally suspect scammers out there trying to make money from parent's good intentions for their children, I was suspicious of this program too until a teacher at school showed it to me. Of course, I still do a lot of reading, talking, playing with my kids- NO computer game, however good, is going to be a substitute for good pre-literacy activities with me, but this is a good, fun way for my boys to reinforce concepts.

My son uses reading eggs, which is great. Some of the exercises are repetitive but still a brilliant program. So much more than lessons!

Would also highly recommend Education City. It covers maths, english and science. (launuages too for england, scotland) You can get a 10 day free trial! You can also get a free trial with reading eggs (i think) Also the further you progress with reading eggs, the more activities open up.
