Ideas for school shoes - not Startrite or Clarks!

DD (5) has a high instep and broad feet and doesn't fit 'mary jane' type shoes. Clarks appear to have only this style in her size and Startrite have one no mj shoe but it's the same one she has had for the last few occasions.

Who else does school shoes?

As my DC have the opposite problem need widths D and E for them, I have given up and bought trainers this afternoon. - I have said I will deal with the teachers if they cause a fuss. DS is v relaxed about it. DD most unhappy at looking "different" but her feet are the narrower and what is the point of plimsols that fall off when you run?

CaptainNancy · 10/08/2011 16:59

alison222- john lewis have velco fastening black pumps- would it work if they were pulled across quite far? My DD is D width, and they fit her okay.
They do have black plimsoll Doodles too... but I don't know if they have multiple width fittings, and they are £9.50 Shock

Both my children have high insteps, but thankfully (for my purse) not such wide feet.

M&S do velcro plimsolls too.

4madboys · 11/08/2011 09:25

the velcro plimsoles dont fit on my boys feet, couldnt pull it far enough over for the velcro to stick!

my kids just wear trainers, geox normally and no-one at school has ever said anything to them about it :)

youarekidding · 11/08/2011 09:39

No luck with velcro plimsolls here either and the elastic ones don't even go on!!

I bought primarni lace up ones and threaded elastic through like a shoe lace - works really well and great to do different colours/ laces for summer shoes as well as only £3 a pair. Only last a summer holiday hammering though.

I use Clarks for DS but there is only ever 1 pair that fits! High instep, normal width and abnormally thin heel and ankle. Going to try Startright for him as he starts juniors and I think he'd like a choice of shoe as opposed to being told its these ones. Grin

Ask your DCs if they actually wear their black plimsoles to do anything in.
I gave up worrying if they fitted when I discovered they just slipped them on to walk over to the hall and then did gym or dance bare foot.
School is perfectly happy for them to have trainers in summer for out door PE.

I bought DS1 shoes at clarks today - we were trying on shoes for my normal footed child, and speaking to the fitter, she said shoes have been remodelled.

tried on a pair of H fitting shoes and bingo! - they fit really well, were wide enough but also high enough on the sides that the straps went over the top . Happy days, as the shoes were about £10 cheaper than the geox ones.

still managed to spend £103 on 3 pairs of shoes though. :(

youare kidding - you may find Ricosta good make my ds high instep narrow heel - Clarks never fit and got one pair of trainers from there once as was desperate and did not last at all.....never again...
and we normally end up with them relatively expensive but fantastically well made have lasted all year through scootering/football etc and still look good

this site sometimes have the European labels cheaper but can second shoe station in Kew as fab shop really know their stuff and will fit for growth too

You could be describing my dd's feet.

Wide (G/H fitting) with a very high instep.

I've just bought her these which were a perfect fit Smile

They are startrite though ...

fifitot · 12/08/2011 07:57

Yes - have just bought some start-rites. Not disimilar to above but with a buckle. Not sure how she'll manage that to be honest...........but she'll have to learn!

MadameCastafiore · 12/08/2011 19:19

T Bar kickers - they are fab and last for ages.

sairz1980 · 18/08/2011 12:58

Depending on where you are in Manchester - you could try Tiger Feet in Bramhall, they are a small independent store and they stock alot of european brands. John Lewis (Cheadle and Trafford centre) sometimes have other brands as well. There are also Clinkards and Geox stores at the trafford centre, and Russell and Bromley are in St Anns Square.

I shop alot!
