Fountain pens

Hi,

Can anyone suggest which fountain pen is best to start with? DD is moving to a new school after the Easter holidays next year and I have noticed on the list of equipment they have to have that it includes a fountain pen. She doesn't use one currently so I would like to purchase one for her to practise with. Any suggestions??

Thanks in advance.

Follygirl my DD was told to get a lamy safari, but she has a Parker as her friend gave her one, we are 162 miles away and request for a pen tomorrow was met with how? So friend gave he unused spare pen, she keeps breaking her nibs so her parents had given her spare [guilty not prepared for everything parent smiley]

Thought so. Constantly amazed by the things that private school parents put up with that would have state school parents beating a path to the Head's door!

Seeker what is wrong with writing neatly with a fountain pen? I get one pen, DD refills it, doesn't lose it at it is her only pen and can use it as long as wants without it running out. Far more economical than a biro that runs out, I know I joked about the ink in the pocket but actually the grass stains on the sports kit are worse Grin

I don't understand why state school parents would be complaining, my DS 2 is at a state primary and in yr6 they use fountain pens

Nothing wrong with writing neatly. But why on earth learn to do it with a fountain pen/ There are loads of handwriting pens available that don't involve a fragile nib, liquid smudgable ink, and an implement that a vanishingly small number of people use in adult life. And which actively discriminates against left handers. And which is expensive.

Thank you wheresthepimms for the information. She doesn't need it until after Easter but the school suggested it would be good to practise this summer.

I can't add anything that seeker hasn't already covered!
