I don't think anyone answered correctly, but there are two different interpretations of the question here - if the question is 'what must schools legally tell you' then the answer is end of Y2 and Y6 results.

If the question is 'what must schools tell you if you ask/demand it' then the answer would be everything.

i think parents like to know the sats test results because they are at least objective, the marker doesn't know the child ,so preconceptions don't come into it.

A school is under a statutory duty to give parents SATS results at the end of years 2 and 6. You don't have to ask.

Under different legislation, they are also obliged to give a parent access to anything written about their child on request.

Two completely different situations.

Bit of an update, we have been told today that they are coming home on Monday, same as yr6; bit late in the day as they finish on Wednesday and have probably chosen that day so that they can not be barraged with questions from dozens of parents about their child's progress but hey ho.

The Y2 tests are marked by the Y2 teacher and/or senior staff, spidermama. And a trawl through any thread on the Y6 writing test, EVER, will tell you how objective, non-representative and absolute shit the external marking process is.

Feenie · 14/07/2011 17:48

Sorry, spiderpig, not spidermama.

spiderpig8 · 14/07/2011 17:48

sorry i was thinking of KS2 says not Y2!
I am interested in why you think external markers are less objective though?

Feenie · 14/07/2011 18:09

As I said, google for KS2 writing marking and you will find year upon year of totally substandard, dreadful, external marking. The pay for external English markers is very poor. One year, they even used students, reportedly, and lost hundreds of papers.

Every year is the same debacle. In 17 years of SATs, I have only ever not complained once - this year, where we are in shock over having a decent marker. This is not representative in most schools this year - the BBC have reported on the widespread atrocious writing marking yet again and the NAHT are collecting evidence again to present to the DFE.

Last year's boycott was, in part, due to the substandard marking of writing. The previous year, I even had to demand a review of the review of marking before I got anywhere.

It's a farce. Hopefully, the writing papers as they stand will be scrapped next year.

I got DD1s actual Sats marks because I was having a "debate" with the senior school over crazy setting. Primary Head just scribbled them on a postit note no bother.
In fact the senior school worked out that she needed to go up a science and maths set without much of a prod so I never needed themSmile

Hi lovecheese:

As others have posted - the school should be obliged to give you this information.

If they continue to refuse you are well within your rights to invoke the freedom of information act - as tax payers money has funded the SAT test and this is your own child's data - to whom you are legal guardian.

I suspect that if you simply asked the Head whether you need to invoke the Freedom of Information act on this or whether they could see their way to providing it would be a sufficient indication that you feel it is your right to know this data.
