My y4 ds has been awarded a first from Oxford - is this good?

My ds's teacher says his end of term homework is probably doctoral thesis level and that we should possibly be thinking about submitting for the Nobel prize. Does anyone know if this is unusual? Is he doing well? He seems a bright little thing, but I'm not sure what these levels know.

At home my DS clearly demonstrates that he is working at a level that would achieve him a double first simultaneously at Oxford and Cambridge whilst playing 7 instruments and speaking 9 languages in his spare time; but the teacher is still refusing to move him off ORT Level 2. Should I have a word?

I also know for a fact he is a thousand times more intelligent than Polly's DS, who is clearly only on the top table because his mum is on the PTA, is school governor and invites the HT to her dinner parties.

You must be so proud of your ds. Poor my dd age 5 just isn't academic pls reassure me she'll be ok at the bolshoi ballet (first under 10 to ever go there- is that good?)

My 18 month old completed her Yale thesis whilst climbing Everest solo. Barack Obama kept interrupting her for advice on the US economy so it's a miracle she got it done. So Oxford is nothing to get excited about

Teachermumof3 · 12/07/2011 19:54

Oh-did he not scrape the double honours? I'd seriously consider a tutor.

MigratingCoconuts · 12/07/2011 19:54

not Cambridge then?? hmm....

Hippee · 12/07/2011 19:57

The following is a true conversation with my 4 year-old:

DS1: I helped God make the world
Me: What did you do?
DS1: I made the light.

Wish I had made this up, so I could participate in this thread.

Crap at making jokes, so can't contribute, but loving this thread (says Mum who realises she has started two threads re: levels this week Blush

ds sort of got around to a double first while backpacking round mothercare, we were worried his total popularity and the way everyone totally loves him might hold him back! We're totally chilled esp as he did not even say his first word until before conception - everyone was hassling us to get him assessed but we were like why ?

Yay!

TCOB · 12/07/2011 20:21

My 1 year old just managed to piss INSIDE her toddle truck. Now that is clever Grin. Do you think I should get her keyworker involved so we can push her to do a poo in there next? Or am I being pushy?

Riveninside · 12/07/2011 20:22

Yeah, but can he balance a pencil on his head?
Grin

cory · 12/07/2011 20:22

I think you will find that Oxford are not going to be able to stretch him in the way he needs: they rarely manage much above 6 foot 2 imhe.

pantaloons · 12/07/2011 20:23

My dc's 3, 6 and 7 all contributed towards winning a shared nobel prize, but are now arguing over whose bedroom it goes in. Do I a) cut it into 3 pieces so they all have a bit, or 2) make 2 more out of play do?

Grin
pantaloons · 12/07/2011 20:23

rabbitstew · 12/07/2011 20:35

It really depends what the first was in, or whether it was merely the first of its kind. There are Nobel prizes and Nobel prizes, too... Tbh, I'd be a bit disappointed if it was for literature.

MigratingCoconuts · 12/07/2011 20:35

DD could bend time and space using only the power of her mind by the start of year 1 ........

OriginalPoster · 12/07/2011 20:35

'probably?'

How very dare she...

Move schools and write to OFSTED

You do realise that Oxford isn't in the Russell Group? I'd be keeping a low profile if I were you, OP, bit of humility now.
