Year 1 scores?

Hello, my dd's report was lovely. She had scores for reading, writing, maths, ICT and science. She got 2b's and 2c for R, W, M but just 2's for the other but a comment that she was working above age related expectations for ITC and at age related expectations for science....seems odd to me. Do you not get an a, b, c for science and ICT and how can one be at age related and the other above?

Presumably the 2b and 2c refer to the SATs scores (which is odd as kids don;t sit SATs till they;'re in year 2). There's a message on Mumsnet today about SATs scores and explaining them - maybe look for that? There should be some explanation about the scoring used somewhere in the report, or else it's a bit pointless. Ask your class teacher?

But of course kids can work at age related expectations for one subject but above expectations for another and also below expectations fora third, depending where their strengths lie!

Year 1 kids get assessed too just not using sats tests normally. The 'school reports chat' thread has more on this.

The only subjects "split" into a,b and c are reading, writing and maths, everything else is just a "straight" number.

We only report sub levels in reading, writing, maths. We actually do sub level for s+l and science for our own target tracking, but this isn't usually reported to the parents. Straight levels are generally reported for science.

Year 1 children don't do SAT tests. The levels reported will be her teacher's assessments. If she is achieving level 2 in Y1 she is above age expectations in all subjects. (2B is the expected level at the end of Y2)

Thanks Mrz..she got 2b in reading and writing and 2c in maths....the 2b's the teacher said she was exceeding age related expectations and 2c she was working within age related....so would you disagree with the 2c comment? Generally doing quite well tho, so v pleased!

I would say a (secure) 2C is exceeding Y1 expectations but the teacher may be saying that she is secure within expected levels and beginning to work at the higher level (not quite so confident)
