How many people have primary school children in different schools

I've posted a long ramble about my schools-after-I've-moved-house situation on another thread so won't go into that but I may have my 3 kids at 2 different schools. The 2 schools are not related (infant/junior relationship) or close to one another and I wondered how feasible it was to cope without using a childminder or after school care of some sort.

The junior school aged children (who would go to the same school) would need me to walk them to and from school at the beginning as they won't know the route but would be fine walking home when more confident. Would I be unreasonable to expect them to walk home 20 minutes together?

Does anyone else have this scenario and no car to speed things up?

I'm in a similar situation with a child starting reception in our area in September adn a Y1 child at a school 6 miles away but we have a car. I have arranged with the school for the reception child that I will drop her off 30 minute late and pick her up 30 minutes early everyday. Its the only way I can do it.

Are your children quite sensible and how busy are the roads. I should imagine that they would be okay walking home together at that age if they are both sensible and the route is fairly quiet.

Round here we have infant and junior schools separately. They are roughly 30 minutes walk away. And they start at the same time. Does that count?

I have one in infant school and one in junior school. They are 20 minutes walk away, juniors start 10 minutes earlier (gates open 10 minutes before that) and finish 5 minutes later. DS walks down after school to meet up with me and DD and we continue the walk home together.

20 minutes walk home by themselves at junior age is not unreasonable.

I have been tree both with one In junior one in infant schools set up and with one in one school two across town. We had out junior school child walk to and from on her own about fifteen min walk arranged with people going the same way to go with her when possible and then I collected the others. Was tight I worried about her but in reality she was just fine.

i face this next year - both schools 8.50 til 3.30, 10 mins apart. I'm planning on dropping one off at breakfast club at 8.35 and leaving one in after school club til 3.45. Its a hassle having to pay for this but i didnt want to rely on others - people have offered but i dont think its fair as many have a couple of their own kids so safety issues re crossing roads, emergencies etc. Also, even though i'm dropping them early i still feel i'm personally dropping or picking each child up per day. Mine will be R and Y2 so the R child won't know anything different.

I have twins in different schools, 2.5miles apart. They are reception. I manage with friends and after school clubs. But I have now applied to the council for transport for my ds as he's over 2 miles from our house.

rebl - was that to separate them? Just interested.

I am thinking about moving my DS from his current school but keeping my DD there.
