Have any schools actually asked for parents to come and work on Thursday?

I've just trawled through the lengthy thread on 'parents as teachers', but just wondered if any heads had actually taken his advice and asked for parents to cover?...and if anyone has taken them up on it!

No, of course no parents have actually been asked.......

No HT would do that.

I think I was told a while ago that only 'teachers' - ie people with a 'teacher number' can take a register, so that can only be done by a qualified person(!) and I wonder what the situation is with regard to CRB checks. TAs and cover supervisors all need to be checked out, why should parents be assumed to be 'safe'? What on earth would happen if, God forbid, there was 'an incident'?

HLTAs certainly take the register in my Primary. Am not sure about support staff/cover supervisors in secondary?

I am a CS ie not a qualified (or even unqualifed!) teacher in a secondary and I certainly take the register!

But no, not heard of any mums or dads coming in to cover. Thank goodness.

Everyone one would have to be CRB checked wouldn't they, as I'm sure there wouldn't be enough pre checked people in to make sure a non vetted person wasn't left alone with the children.

Everyome would have to be CRB'd, first aid(?) trained, how to evacuate a school if the fire alarm goes off, ring up a parent you do not know if their child has an accident, control a classroom full of kids who know you don't know what you're doing.
Probably a load of other scenarios I can't think of.

Be called a scab for the next few years until your child has left school.

All the other kids will call your child a scab and alienate them as well.

I would be shocked if anyone called a parent or child "scab" ... Gove is sending out a message that anyone can teach ... few believe him
