She's Y2 7.5yo and on ORT stage 15 - she is enjoying the books and reading others at home (malory towers, wishing tree, those fairy books, Roald Dahl) but she mentions there is another child in class on stage 19 :-/. Is stage 15 ok for her age?

Me too, the good bit is that however tired I am, the print stays neat unlike handwritten.
Plus there is spellcheck and MN.

My most able readers in Y2 were reading Treetops stage 12/13 (which I think is good) until I trialled Bug Club Hmm

What do you think of Bug Club mrz?
Did you buy into it as an individual or as a school?

Can't get on the ORT reading chart as the computer I'm on doesn't have a flash player or whatever it is. If ORT only goes up to 16 then I guess DD or her friend have been exaggerating slightly, which isn't surprising I guess.

Thanks for the book suggestions, think I will send DH to the library with a bit of a picking list Grin.

Thanks for the helpful stealth boasting accusations Hmm, gave me a bit of a chuckle.

Well, this is mumsnet Grin, we lay ourselves open to possible ridicule by posting.

Perhaps your DD was looking at her friend's book upside down and saw the 6 as a 9? But then that would be level 91 !!! The mind boggles at the thought of that.

Bug Club is offering a three month trial which I signed up for but I think we will subscribe (as a school) response from children and parents is very positive.

exactly lovecheese, hence the laughter rather than annoyance Grin

oneofthosedays, they definitely only go up to level 16 and you may find that the books at that level aren't all that suitable for a child of her age because they are aimed at much older ones (year 6). For instance, ds1 was given a book about a boy finding out the man he thought was his father actually wasn't, which I wasn't happy with and sent back. Just thought I'd mention it. School let ds1 become a free reader soon after that thank goodness.

thanks Jellycat i think we will keep an eye on what she's being given and focus on getting plenty interesting books out from the library.

Dd's cousin showed an interest in her rainbowfairymagic books. Dd offered them to him and he readily agreed. I immediately packed them into a bag and gave them to my dsis. She thought it was a generous gift Grin

oneofthosedays · 20/06/2011 14:23

luckily we twigged quite early on re those fairy books and managed to only amass about 5 Grin

DD2 has heaps, amassed from lots of different places. She still occasionally reads one, think it's like a mug of hot chocolate and a blanket for her.

I'm sorry. But I think your dd is reading terribly. Mine was reading Shakespeare by that age. You should be really concerned and speak to the teacher at once.
