Websites for infants age?

Hi we have never used the computer at home for the children and am thinking they'd find it a big novelty to start doing so and it'd be a low key way to keep their brains ticking over during the summer break. Which websites would you recommend for educational games for infant school aged kids? Is it worth paying for a subscription somewhere or are the free sights just as good?

Free sites are excellent but you need to monitor them to assess their suitability.

Paid sights mean you get records of their results and cant track their progress.

CD games are really good, ie Jump Ahead series.

Free sites mean you can try different ones and they dont get bored. Sometimes 12 months on the same site can get very tedious and children also need to see different strategies and presentations for questions so that they really understand what they are learning.

For a paid site, educationcity is good.

For free sites, search KS1 Maths or KS1 Literacy and you will get hundreds. Search on here for maths websites and lots of recommendations will also come up.

The best sites are those that teach strategies - how to do the sums. Sites that just expect you to know the answer are not that helpful if the child doesnt understand how to do it.

Www.uptoten.com is great for simple games and fun graphics. My kids have used since three. There are games for older and younger kids. Cbeebies is obviously good. Dd loves ict games - google to find web address - for maths

phonics play, google it, can subscribe for £10 a year, but there are free games too, if you like it you can subscribe at any point for the rest of the games, our scool uses it. xx

www.zoodles.com is great
it filters all the sites available and creates a tool bar so that children dont migrate away from this site.

agree with zoodles. I've got it on my phone and DS can play it when we're at the doctors/waiting for the bus etc. Also v good when they insist that 5am is get up time and you want to stay in bed
