Year 4 textbooks ?

Hi all
We are relocating back to the U.K and our DD1 will probably be in Year 4 when we return. Does anybody know any text books that schools might use for English and Maths - I understand that some schools might not use schemes but a generalguideline would be helpful - I've seen the Letts ones in Smiths -are these a good indicator of what a Year 4 child should be able to do?
I'm interested as I'm mindful that dd1 could be behind as she missed the first year of school due to her just turning 4 in the August and so it wasn't compulsary to send her to school where we're living.
Thanks for any help/advice

Will she be 8 this August ? Cut off for Engish schools is Sept 1st . The Letts etc are pretty standard stuff, Heinemann and Nelson Thornes are publishers used by some schools. BBC website and Woodlands primary have some online games and activities which may give you an idea. A good school will be able to differentiate if she needs to catch up.

Age appropriate Bond books (maths, reasoning, english) are good for home - more structured than trying to work through texts. The Simon and Schuster mental maths work books (try level 1 now, and work up to level 2) are also good chunk-sized practice.

Thanks for the replies Michaelpurple and Lizs
Yes Lizs she is eight on Aug 16th so she will be quite a young one in Y4.
Wil have a look out for the books recommended.

Schools in general do not have textbooks for use in class, but those would give you an idea of the type of work that might be expected.

Some free samples of maths work for different years here
mathsgogogo.co.uk/

If you like the sheets and think you might use them with dd , you can get a full cd of all of them for £20 here www.mathsphere.co.uk/products/MathSphereWorksheetsItsAllFiguredOutHomeEdition.htm rather than having to pay for an online subscription.

If she was born between 1st September 2002 and 31st August 2003 she will be in Year 4 in September 2011.

I would leave the textbooks as most schools don't use them and the ones that they do will tend to be linked to schemes the school uses which are probably only available via educational catalogues and specific educational companies. If you really want your 8-year-old to be studying before starting Year 4 then WHSmith have a range of educational texts for the core subjects ranging from about £2.50.

Thanks for the links Sarahfreck
Mum2be79- yes dd1 will be in Y4 going by those dates. I'm sure she'll be fine but as she is young combined with missing out on reception I was just curious to know .....
