What maths are Year 2 doing

wangle99 · 18/05/2011 19:34

DS is in Year 2 and is continually asking me to print out work sheets for him to do, haven't a clue what they are doing at this level and don't want to ask his teacher for fear of being 'pushy parent' when in fact DS loves doing it and likes sitting when DD and I do our homework (I'm studying too).

Thanks

He might like his own textbook to work from, the Maths workout books are good and show what each year is covering
www.amazon.co.uk/KS1-Maths-Numeracy-Workout-Book/dp/1841460818/ref=sr_1_6?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1305744149&sr=1-6

My youngest loved maths workbooks too, he used to buy them with his pocket money!

wangle99 do you not get a half-termly plan of what they will be covering?

wangle99 · 18/05/2011 19:56

we have been getting a broad outline but nothing indepth and actually we haven't had one this half term.

I will check out that link thank you

Describe patterns and relationships involving numbers or shapes, make
predictions and test these with examples.
I can describe and continue the pattern for a set of numbers or shapes. 2. Solve problems involving addition, subtraction, multiplication or division
in contexts of numbers, measures or pounds and pence.
I can decide which calculations are needed to solve a two-step word

problem.

  1. Derive and recall all addition and subtraction facts for each number
to at least 10, all pairs with totals to 20 and all pairs of multiples of 10 with totals up to 100. I know which pairs of numbers make 20. I know all the pairs of multiples of 10 that make 100.
  1. Understand that halving is the inverse of doubling and derive and recall
doubles of all numbers to 20, and the corresponding halves. I know the doubles of all the numbers up to 20.
  1. Derive and recall multiplication facts for the 2, 5 and 10 times-tables
and the related division facts; recognise multiples of 2, 5 and 10. I know my 2, 5 and 10 times-tables and can work out the division facts that go with them. I can tell if a number is a multiple of 2, 5 or 10.
  1. Use knowledge of number facts and operations to estimate and check
answers to calculations. I can check answers to calculations involving doubling by halving the answer.
  1. Visualise common 2-D shapes and 3-D solids; identify shapes from
pictures of them in different positions and orientations; sort, make and describe shapes, referring to their properties. I can match familiar solids to their pictures.

mrz - graphs? Incidentally, if a child could do all, securely, that you listed what would be your teacher assessment level be?

mrz · 18/05/2011 20:14

What I listed is 3 weeks work for Y2 and is level 2

lovecheese · 18/05/2011 20:25

Thanks mrz.

Thank you that is fantastic, don't want to go overboard but likewise he gets bored if too easy!
