i have a very active boy who started school last september, he runs constantly at play time and so has a lot of injurys. yesterday came out limping as he fell and cut his knee. he had a plaster on but i did not get a bump note and the teacher did not say anything, it is about 1cm long but quite deep.

is this normal?, perhaps over protective but really have a problem with the infant playground there is a lot of rough play, have spoken to the teacher who says they are on to it, but still not happy - do i go to the head??

also golden time today - he has chosen lap tops this term, but did not enjoy it last week. said he did not want to go today and this was why. teacher said that is what he has chosen and dont normally switch. maybe it just me but should a 4 yr old be given a large choice of what gt activity to do? think they forget that they are little and dont really understand, but teacher / school should??

Honestly I don't think there is any need for Golden Time in a reception classroom. Children should have access to a variety of activities to choose from throughout the day, day in and day out.

I wouldn't expect or send a "bump" note for a minor scrape on a knee but would mention it to the parent and record it but I know some schools send notes about everything.

I agree I wouldn't expect a note about a cut knee, but definitely a quick word from the teacher.

Also agree they should be able to change golden time activity as and when they want, especially at age 4 (and even 5 or 6), it's meant to be fun and a treat!

In our school the children choose GT activities for the week on Friday mornings. Choosing for a whole term seems a bit tricky for a four-year old. (But think of the teaching time that would be saved! My class wastes spends at least 20minutes every Friday choosing.)

How is GT a treat for children in reception who should have free access to "fun" activities every day? It's unnecessary!

At my dd's school, the children can choose to go into any classroom during golden time. This means that you have the lovely situation of Reception playing alongside Yr 6s or any other year group.
