Hello,

We have just moved to Manchester and had a bit of a nightmare getting dd into school. We've found one now but the 6 weeks she had off school and the trauma of moving have taken their toll and she is getting behind. It's affecting her confidence and as much as I hate the idea of becoming a pushy parent, I don't want her to suffer or get behind too much.

I've had a look at a few websites but all tutors seem to say the same thing. I don't know anyone else in Manchester who has children so have no one to ask. Can anyone let me know of a good tried and tested tutor or after school/weekend class for my dd? Also how much should I be paying, how many hours a week etc.

Thanks so much for your help in advance.

If the above tutor doesn't work out you could try our tutor - she is called Chika and totally amazing. She is a teacher, not sure what year group but I think she tutors KS1 & KS2. How old is your dd? She is very patient and has helped my ds out lots, to the extent that his teacher cannot believe that he is the same child. We also moved to Manchester and had issues with finding a school place. I was reccomended her by a neighbour who said that she helped her daughter get into Withington school (I'm not up on private schools but apparently its rather good!) I don't want to post her email until I have ask but feel free to PM me for the details.

Just to update - I just texted her and she has said to post her website link www.firsttutors.co.uk/tutor/chika.english.maths.entrance-exams. If you want her contact details just PM me as she didn't want them posted on a public forum.

if you are near Didsbury area, I use this guy www.mathsandphysicstuition.com/

He has done amazing job with my son - and he does not just focus on Maths - he got him reading books and enjoying literature. His style is very laid back and quiet but he has had huge impression on my son who has asked to keep seeing him for as long as we can afford it - would not expect many 11 year olds to say that!!

We use one of the tutors from www.enthuseeducation.co.uk for our daughter. It's cheaper distance tutoring but we find that more convenient (as she has so many other commitments with swimming/brownies etc.). She's making very good progress. Hope this helps!

I would really recommend www.tutorsfe.co.uk. They are NW based and focus on English tutoring but I think they do other subjects too. My dd's tutor was fantastic, really passionate and enthusiastic about her subject. Well worth the money!

Thank you so much for your help everyone. Sarah Freck sounded amazing and she must be fab as she's so busy. Due to complicated arrangements with Ex and a lack of free time I've gone with Jane in Didsbury's suggestion of Chika. Didn't want to pay money to join the site but did some digging and found her gumtree ad. www.gumtree.com/p/business-services/experienced-personal-tutor-all-primary-agesand-subjects-entrance-exams-references-and-crb/79449328

Hopefully DD will start to pick up soon. Fingers crossed!
