Hearing tests at school

Who is responsible for ensuring that the children who parents DIDN'T give permission for their hearing to be tested at school don't then get their hearing tested at school when the rest of the class are being done?

And yes I'm fuming because yes this has happened and yes they've told me that my deaf dd is guess what, deaf. And guess what, they want to refer her to audiology. And guess what, she's already under audiology because SHE'S DEAF. I specifically refused permission because she didn't need more tests than she already has.

I hate this school I really do. Its something every bloody week.

The person conducting the test is responsible for ensuring she/he has written permission for each child she/he test. School are only involved in providing a convenient place for the tests to be carried out en mass.

So its the person on the top of the letter thats been sent home telling me that she's deaf and requires further investigations? Seems to be community audiology then which is who the letter is from.

I know when our children are tested the audiologist is very careful to check returned permission slips with class lists and only see those children. Usually before she begins she organises the order and fills in a letter for any child who hasn't returned a form offering an alternative date.

I've now found out that at least 1 other child was tested whose parent did not give consent. There has clearly been a failing somewhere.

This happened to me with dentist visits - I refused consent because my DCs see their own dentist every 6 months. 6 weeks after a checkup (during which we found that DD2 had a loose tooth at age 5, but this is normal in our family) she was seen without my consent and we received a letter home. Guess what it said...

I took it straight to the PCT and to the Patient Advice and Liaison Service - I work in health research and I know consent legistlation inside out, and made this very plain. It has never happened again. Take it to the PALS service, be polite but firm and they will sort it - consent is taken very, very seriously, as it should be.
