My daughter is doing SAT's nxt yr 2012, but we want to go away on holiday to Florida, the dates we can go go and prices etc mean that SATs will probably clash? Husband says they don't matter for her anyway it's more about the school. I feel torn..I don't agree with tests/ quizez extra pressure at this age but don't want to do her a misservice!
HELP!

The headteachers has now agreed leave for next May!! He agrees that they will get as much outr of a holiday abroad as at school and will do everything he can do to ensure that my daughter sits the SATs at a convinient time for them and us! He even said if he was not the HT he would take his two kids out of school as well, so a victory for good old common sense.

On a note to end the EWO did state that he would support a non authorisation of a holiday request if abscences/ late attendance was a problem- obviously it's not.
Thank you to all the USEFUL/ constructive comments people have placed.

Off now to bk the holiday woop, woop!

OK, well that's great news. Grin
BUT, it begs the question: how is it fair that parents at ellen's school face a potential fine of £1000 per child for a week's holiday, yet this Head has condoned and authorised yours. That's a massive injustice, isn't it? Either we all face a fine, or none of us should.

You are only fined for unauthorized absences - authorized ones are OK. The problem is that some schools will authorize term time holidays and some won't.

It is INCREDIBLY unusual for any school to authorise a holiday in SATS month though - I have to say I find the OP's Head's behaviour almost as astonishing as that of the EWO!

They mus both have incredible faith in the educational effect of Disneyland!

seeker, I agree with you.

I'm not sure I'd want my child at a school that had a headteacher with that sort of attitude.

mrz is right though in that she won't miss them-she will do them before or afterwards. I am somewhat surprised by HT attitude though-many schools fine the parents in my area Confused

I'm amazed , we can't get authorisation for the whole of year 2or 6, not that I would expect it. I've applied for odd days in order to allow for awkward flights but whole weeks seems a bit much to me, they wouldn miss so much!

Our HT is a bit of an old stick in the mud, but he does generally authorise a week's holiday if attendance is good. We do get a letter saying holidays will not be authorised in May in year 2 or 6. The local secondaries won't authorise any holidays!
