For all families affected this year or concerned about future years, a meeting will take place at the Tobacco Factory, Monday 2 May, 11am.

Come and meet others in the same situation to discuss a plan of action. Local councillors will also attend.

My OH has been governor at a South Bristol primary school and finished in July 2010. He attended a meeting organised by the City Council a few years ago where provision of future primary places was discussed. All the governors were telling the Council that they needed to increase the no. of primary places but they were told that the Labour government would not let them do this when there were still empty places at other schools in South Bristol. The problem really is that the school places are not in the areas that most people are moving to. The model the Council used is also out of date as ALL the following are increasing pressure on places: higher birth rate, more people moving into some areas, fewer families leaving Bristol for schools in rural areas, fewer families taking up private primary school places.
Bristol does still give siblings priority (which is not true across all LEAs) and if you can get information that siblings who live out of catchment are being given priority over other children living closer to the school I think this would strengthen your case for more places to be provided.
I hope this helps you build your case.
