i will soon be moving to a new area of the country to be closer to my family. i am currently renting so need to wait to find somewhere in the new area to live. can i start to apply for a school place even though i don't have a fixed address in the new area? i really want her to be able to start school at the beginning of the new school year as she's had enough disruption in her short life already. i have been holding back from moving earlier so that she can finish her year in reception first.
any help would be much appreciated

Give the LEA in the area a call to get their advice, at the very least they should know which schools have spaces in that year group.

It is up to the LA but most won't want to allocate a place until you have proof of your new address.

do you think i would get away with using my mother in laws address until i get a permenant one?

hi the LEA will have details on the website on what you need to do - I am moving at the moment and had to supply signed tenancy agreement as proof of address -you can also only apply 6 school weeks before you need the place. also I was going to wait to move my DS also in reception until the end of school year but some people here suggested that actually the last half term of the school year wasn't a bad time to move- its winding down time, reception is less full on than Y1 - so that what we are doing
