Hi sorry to be a pain but can anyone tell me what percentage a child needs to get in Maths specifically to achieve each level?

Thanks

It changes slightly each year, but last year it was:

N -0 to 14
2 - 14 to 17
3 - 18 to 45
4 - 46 to 78
5 - 79 to 100

Thanks Feenie. Some work to do then!!

I presume this is the sats test? If u get over 79 u r allocated a level 5?

If so it now makes so much sense when someone say their child is on level 5 but they really understand a lot of the level 5 work.

And i guess you know that those scores are made up from 3 papers, non-calculator, calculator allowed and a mental arithmetic (given via CD/orally frim teacher under specific time constraints per question)??

You do know that the SATs are absolutely no use to anyone but the school and their league table, don't you?

Your dc's teacher assessment is much more accurate and worth looking at.

And high schools use their own tests to sort students into ability groups (even if they consider the KS2 SATs, they are certainly not the deciding factor as they are so often inaccurate relfetcions of a child's ability)

But that didn't answer your question, so I'll butt out and get my coat now....

Our school doesn't do Sats, but 79 does seem to be a very low number for the top marks

pinkhebe · 20/04/2011 10:26

it seems quite reasonable to me, yr 6 are expected to reach level 4 (so 50 - 79%) and that will be levels a - c. level 5 is the top 21%, again levels a-c, so in fact a 5a will be those children getting 95%ish.

I'm not sure that that made any sense at all! Grin

80% is considered a first at many universities (actually 75% for a lower first)
An A grade in GCSE and A levels is 80%
(subjects can vary )

Thanks for all the messages. I know they don't really mean anything - I have older dds and know that senior schools don't really use the results.

I really don't care what she gets but I know she'll be upset if she gets a lot lower than her mates so just trying to see how close she is to getting what she wants and if there's anything I can help with.

Again thanks everyone!
