What do you buy a male teacher?

We are moving so kids will be leaving our tiny primary. They want to get their teachers going away presents. Since the school is small, both children have been taught by the 3 current teachers (includes the ht), the learning support teacher has supported dd and the ta has given a lot of help AND the secretary lady has regularly stuck plasters on her knees and patched her up.

So feel I really wnat to give them all something - but that's 6 presents so can't be too expensive

The women are easy - they will each get a flowering plant (under £ 10 each)

But what do I do about dd's young male class teacher? He has only been there since October so I don't know him very well.

Any brilliant ideas (for under £10)

Buy him a plant too.

Very good question, and will be watching your thread with interest as dd1 will probably have male teacher next year!

We have a lovely headmaster, and always get him something small and 'silly' - just gave him a bar of 'interesting' (caramel and sea salt: sounds awful but tastes wonderful) chocolate and a ruler shaped like a pistol for his desk....'to keep chocolate thieves away' (dd2, quote unquote).

Maybe a mug??

I'm a male teacher and generally I get things like socks, ties, beer, football related things, for my favourite team, something for the class, such as books, or chocolate. Generally though I'm happy to be given anything at all!

Did think about a tie - he's quite young (26) - so have no diea what kind to get. Thought about buying him a plant too but didn't think he'd appreciate it. Apparently he likes jaffa cakes..

not toiletries, they will go straight to oxfam Grin
if you get a mug, please get a nice one, we have several 'best teacher' ones cluttering the place
surely everyone likes home made biscuits etc ?

Grabaspoon · 15/04/2011 17:31

Shame you can't get those meter of Jaffa Cakes at this time of year Grin

What about a joint present for the staffroom? and an individual card for each wtih a memory from the children in. I'm a teacher and the cards I get that express appreciation are what I like better than any present.

Bottle of wine always goes down with DS's male teachers.

diabolo · 15/04/2011 19:09

Goes down well, that should be. Idiot.

mumofboy · 15/04/2011 19:56

Yes, bottle of wine I'd say too.

MayorNaze · 15/04/2011 19:57

book token

TheMonster · 15/04/2011 19:58

I have consulted a male colleague and he says a nice beer glass, nice coffee or a Sainsury's voucher for beer Smile

A "grown up" Easter Egg? Assuming your move is imminent

haggisaggis · 15/04/2011 21:04

So if you were one of teh female teachers and you got a flowering plant and he got a bottle of wine woudl you be happy? (did think about getting them all wine originally but thought a plant would last longer).
I did think about getting something for the school but my dc are adamant that they want to give the teachers individual gifts.
Move is next week so very imminent!

Get him a plant too - mint is good for making mojitos if he doesn't put them in desserts. Or (according to a friend's relative) good for keeping flies away. If I were a female teacher I am afraid a plant would not be any good for me but wine yes - I'm not green fingered, unless the plant has edible fruit/leaves :-) Hope it is known that all the female teachers enjoy looking after flowering plants! At least with a herb, it would have served a useful purpose whether for a long or a short time.

mrz · 16/04/2011 06:19

In my house the wine would probably linger longer than a plant ... I seem to kill them just by bringing them home Hmm but I love flowers Smile
most teachers just appreciate the thought behind the gift

2gorgeousboys · 16/04/2011 06:33

My boys are at a tiny primary school too and at Christmas I could not afford/could not think of anything to get all 3 teachers, HT, TAs etc something so we got the Oxfam desks for a school in Africa and biscuits for the staff room.

flumperoo · 16/04/2011 07:02

How about a bottle of Teachers whiskey?
