I thought you had to do the 11+ or 13+ to get into a Grammar School?

Private schools don't tend to do SAT's.

Try St Hilda's in Bushey for girls or maybe reddiford in pinner. They'll prep for the 11+

My son is at Reddiford in Pinner, in Year 1. As a prep school that goes up to the end of Year 6, they do exactly as they say on the tin - prepare them for the best secondary schools. Their results are amazing, the kids get loads of offers to the top private and grammar schools. If you are considering sitting your DC for grammar schools, then IMHO this is one of the best options.

BUT, be warned, it is very pushy, for this reason I may eventually move my DS elsewhere, as although a v bright child, he's not one you can push. The academic standards of Reddiford are very high, and their preparation for the entrance exams is meticulous.

I wouldn't advise a through school as they don't prepare them for entrance exams like Watford Grammar, although the academic standards are high, they don't do the specific preparations.

Despite the name Watford Grammar is actually a comprehensive that selects a certain percentage of its intake (the majority get in on sibling/distance criteria). Grammar school tests are a completely different type of test to SATS, so if you are going to send them private it really doesn't matter if they do them or not.

Also, children take the entry test for those consortium schools (also incl Parmiters/Clement Danes etc..) during the Autumn Term of Year 6, long before they take their SATs. Children will probably need to be working at level 5 in order to do well enough to rank high enough for entry. It's become much tougher to get in under their academic criteria in the last couple of years. Whereas 3 or 4 years ago, our school might send between 6 and a dozen (not counting siblings), this year it's 1 pupil!

Thank you all very much for your thoughts/ input. Much appreciated.

Thanks a bunch, this has helped me a lot.

Kind rgds

Sats are very different to the 11+ which is what they sit to enter a grammar school.Aslo agree with Clam, DD1 sat her 11+ in September( so barely into Y6) and her Sats the following May(last term of Y6)..

Well, it's difficult to get in under the academic criteria. As hockey said, it's actually a (partially selective) comprehensive school, so if you live close enough, it shouldn't be so much of a problem.
