Hi

DS (5 Aug born) is getting fed up with Biff, Kipper etc (and so am I Blush)

Just wondering if anyone can recommend any books he can read by himself/with me listening etc...

Going on holiday tomorrow but when we get back a trip to the library is planned...

TIA Smile

In the same situation here with the dull dull dull oxford reading tree. What level reading is he on? We have some project X books that DS loved but the set we have only goes to about stage 5 and i'm not sure what they more complex ones are like. The books are designed for boys and the stories are more interesting than biff and chip.

We have some DK readers, which are a bit more interesting for DS as they come in the spiderman/star wars type varieties and are also staged so you know which level to get. The usborne readers are good too, if you look on the usborne books website there is loads about them there, you can get them on ebay quite cheaply usually.

DS hasn't got there yet, but the astrosaurus and dinosaur cove books seem to be popular, and the lovely horrid henry too.

Will try the Owl who was afraid of the dark though Grin

Will try DK readers too...

He is on ORT level 9 but tbh is finding them quite easy really....His school seem to like him to read all of the rest of the books iyswim, so we have to plod through them all

there have been a few threads recently on real books at various bands. http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/primary/1187580-Thread-with-real-books-comparable-to-book-band-levels.

Or try chest www.readingchest.co.uk/ as you can get Collins books and project X at an equivalent level to ORT and they're much much better.

When they go on to level 10 (ds just has) they are non-kippery chapter books. It was such a relief when he moved on from level 9!!

simpson · 13/04/2011 21:00

Ohhh no more biff & kipper after level 10 Grin

You have made my day!! Only one more to go...

Thanks for all the links, got some good ideas to pick up at the library Smile

Ricky Rockets

Scout and ace
animal crackers
they may be a little easy

Acinonyx · 13/04/2011 23:11

The Magic Treehouse series are really well controlled and easy to read chapter books. Very informative too. Dd (5) reads them but I think they are slightly more boy-friendly.

Malaleuca · 13/04/2011 23:17

Zac Power Books , the Test Drive and Spy Camp series are great favourites with our Y1 boys and girls.

eggspectantmum · 14/04/2011 10:13

Mudpuddle farm - the best intro to chapters in my opinion.
Paddington
Dirty Bertie (much nicer than Horrid Henry)

Try Corgi Pups, Sprinters, Books for Boys, and Jets series.

All easy chapter books with lots of pictures still. If he can read The Twits he will manage these easily!
