Question about writing guidlines (y2)

By guidlines I mean lines on paper for children to write straight.

Is it just in our school that they think there is no need for them in exercise books? It drives me mad (and I hate having to make my own lines) Is there an actual educational reason for the lack of them?
Any teacher could tell me before I make a fool of myself asking Ds2's RL teacher?Smile

Ooh no, do you mean they are writing on blank pages? Not standard at all and not good!! How are they meant to get their letters even and with tails hanging down etc? (am a Y2 teacher)

Oh thanks! I will have a word with teacher. At the biginning of the year it did not matter so much as moste homework was on sheets glues onto the book but now more and more they have to write a few sentences and I feel like pulling my hair out, for the very reason you state, how on earth are they supposed to have a regular hanwriting without lines?

Just a thought, they don't use guidelines (as in a set of lines put under the paper) do they? We do that with plain paper sometimes - that would be ok. If not maybe they could photocopy a set to save getting new books? Most y2s can handle paperclipping it on after a little training!

I have done that for him myself , ladybirdlittle. I have seen his teacher today and asked if he could have his next exercise book wih lignes in it she said yes so problem solvedSmile

Half-blank pages are standard practice, with the other half being quite widely spaced lines. I would not expect a child using blank pages to make any progress limiting their letter sizes and perfecting their uniformity.

It is not half blank, it is totally blank but as said next one (a few more pages to go) will have lines.

My DD's writing is appaling when not in lines! I was very relieved that when she started yr2 they gave them lined books!
Glad you have it sorted now.

Good, glad she wasn't funny about it!
