We applied for 4, and got our 2nd choice- CofE 0.2 miles away. So I'm relieved and TBH a bit astonished we got in (200 applicants and 24 places!).

Tell me your stories, I'm just feeling hugely relieved at the moment and glad the wait is over... Smile

DS got in. I was assuming he would (sibling) - but know that we're lucky. We'd be out of catchment now if he was a firstborn. we've actually moved closer since Dd applied, so go figure... Is this a bulge year for birth rate?

mummynoseynora · 05/04/2011 19:08

we find out 15th April, 90 children going for 30 places and I would really like 2 of them. Ds1 is already there but it is a CofE school and nothing guaranteed, they have thier own addmissions policy.

glitterkitty - glad you got a place you wanted for H, hard to believe they are all starting school this year!!!!

JellyBelly10 · 05/04/2011 19:48

We don't find out until 21st April (well, 22nd by the time the letter arrives!)...why can't all local authorities do things as quickly as each other!? My DS1 is already at the school but am feeling a little concerned that DS2 might not get in as we are not in catchment...just want to find out!!!!!

zzlondongirlzz · 05/04/2011 20:10

well my DD has been offered a place at a lovely small outstanding ofsted CofE London school, massively oversubscribed blah blah - have spent a year worrying about her getting into it, going on tonnes of tours, looking at private options just in case BUT! DH got a work transfer last week and we are moving to Australia.......we are those people who make waiting lists worthwhile!

mummynoseynora · 05/04/2011 20:15

erm think its 28th or something like that?! too long anyway!

LoveLeonardCohen · 05/04/2011 20:46

Got in! First choice...is non-faith school which is what I wanted and literally round the corner. Massively oversubscribed though, they didn't even fill the catchment, I know that loads of people didn't get in....so grateful and happy

FreudianSlippery · 05/04/2011 20:51

Got DD's first choice (well our first choice really but YKWIM)

Happy, but it's not a big deal really. It was our catchment school and according to the stats in the guide book thingy, nobody got rejected last year so it was pretty likely to say the least. I guess the real luck is the fact that when we relocated to this town, we happened to move near a great school! Mind you the other school near us is great too.

TitsalinaBumSquash · 05/04/2011 20:54

DS2 got in to 1 st choice which is where DS1 goes to, we live about 2 mins away though so I guess that goes in our favour, felt a bit bad though at nursery this morning because a lot of the children didn't get in. Sad

glitterkitty · 05/04/2011 22:49

glitterkitty - all good here Grin hard to believe we have survived 4 years of twins Wink pop on over to the April thread, they would love to 'see' you, as we are in the midst of birthday lots of the old gang have popped by

MoreSpamThanGlam · 06/04/2011 19:05

Got 6th place choice. Absolutely gutted. Have heard there is no point in appealing either unless it is on religious grounds. The government gives people a choice of schools? Errr, no.

balia · 06/04/2011 19:10

Don't find out until the 18th - really hope he's got in as it is the only primary we can reach on foot!

ButterpieandCheese · 07/04/2011 00:56

She didn't get in any :( When we applied (we suddenly had to move this week) we actually lived at the end of the road where our second choice is - the bus parks outside our house!

Oh well, no room to appeal - the criteria were fairly applied, but DD1 just wasn't at the top - no special needs, no older siblings, and not religous (although tbh I wasn't overly keen on a faith school, but it was closest, and I believe more in going to the closest school, and DH wanted the faith school, so it went on as second as a compromise)

So, we wait. We added her on to the waiting list for a fourth school, and that is all four that we can walk to (and I'm actually quite keen on HE anyway - school was very reluctantly applied for).

Thing is, it's not like we're tripping over four year olds, there are four schools nearby, and none of them were at capacity last year - where did all the four year olds come from?

It is very sad that there are school buses in these situations, and kids being driven. That means that the kids are going past perfectly good schools on the way.

I just wish I knew - if someone told me she can only start in year one, I could start sorting stuff out, finding out options, and explain to her.

Doesn't somebody somewhere know how many four year olds are in an area? Surely it shouldn't come as a shock? We're not trying to do anything odd- just send our child to the nearest state primary (preferably a non faith one - or as near as you get in our system, but we're pretty sure we have given her the foundations to cope with anything)

Fiddledee · 07/04/2011 08:02

Got none of our SIX choices as I thought we wouldn't, may add a bulge class to our local school (not sure we are high enough on the waiting list) but its a tiny site with already a bulge class - we are going private

sahm3 · 07/04/2011 09:40

We got our first choice, but 2 in nursery didnt get in, the one has a sister already in reception, and they live walking distance, (I feel awful for the mum, she forgot to apply by the recommended date) the second lives miles away anycase, so she knew, she was risking it, we too are out of catchment, so I know we were lucky.

There are 15 reception places, but there are 17 children in nursery, so we all knew there was going to be a battle.

MarionCole · 07/04/2011 13:37

28th April here. I can't bear the wait.

Jellybeanzzzz · 07/04/2011 13:45

How did you find out the number of places allocated and the number that applied? Does that come back with the decision. Still waiting to hear for my DD.

tallulah · 07/04/2011 18:53

We don't find out until the 28th. The more of these threads I read the more I worry we won't get any of our 3 preferences (how come everyone else gets 6?). I want a school I can walk to, so if we don't get one of these 3 we will be stuffed. (and 3rd is a push)

jellybeanzz, some councils publish the info on their website after the initial allocations. Some don't, so it depends where you live.

oooggs · 07/04/2011 19:18

head teacher told me!

toeragsnotriches · 07/04/2011 19:29

We got our first choice but it's not a popular school (tho the younger years are very good as a result of special measures a few years ago and a change of head teacher.) Unfortunately, or fortunately for us, people round here still believe reputation over reality.

puffylovett · 07/04/2011 23:30

We don't find out until the 18th April. I'm really nervous. We applied to 3 schools, but all miles away from us because we've been trying to sell our house for 18 months and wanted to apply for schools in the area we're moving to. So I got the applications in, and about a month later we finally sold the house. We're waiting to move now, hopefully we should complete in a few weeks, but I've no idea wether we've got the school we wanted - and just to top it off, none of the 3 we applied to are walking distance to the new house. No idea what I will do if we're not offered a place - do we appeal to go on the waiting list of the school near our new house, even though it wasn't on our original list? anybody got any ideas?
I was thinking of ringing the council tomorrow to explain the situation, but is there any point in doing that?
