New Way Readers

DD has just started coming home with some New Way Readers. I'm not familiar with this scheme at all other than a quick google which seems to suggest they are quite old. Does anyone know how the colours relate to bookbands/ORT etc? DD has a Blue Band which seemed very easy - she also has Stage 7 ORT Magic Key and Robins Stage 7. She's in Yr1.

Thanks :)

The pink level is in yellow band with ORT Level 3 and I Think the red level books are in blue band with ort level 5. The blue new way coloured books are higher up, but not sure exactly where.
I quite like them, even if they look a bit dated.

Thanks MarmMummy,

I guess it sounds about right - just seemed quite easy in comparison.

Anyone able to confirm this?

Cheers

Can't remember how they compare to other levels, but DD does really enjoy having several stories in one book. So yes although they are a little older we like them, not as old as the village with Three corners which we also love.
I am pretty certain though that we had blue ones at the sametime as ORT level 7.

Oh thanks - haven't heard of that one either!! Just googled and they do look quite fun!

Thank you!

My son hated them with a vengeance! They were first published in the 60s under the name Gay Way but it was changed to New Way in the 90s ... so yes they are dated Hmm

Mrz what do you think of Wolf Hill?

mrz · 16/03/2011 17:25

I've never used Wolf Hill but I can see they might be more appealing for older readers who are at this level than books written for younger children. We use Rapid Readers from Heinneman

That was my concern. My dd is at that level but only 6. May have to encourage her to select something else.

Thanks Everyone!

Mrz - what would you suggest as other alternatives - she's happily reading the Stage 4 ladybirds and we've tried some Bananas but its the fairytales and factual ones that really appeal. She's just turning 6 next week.

Thanks

I'm interested in this too, OP, as my DD is happily reading the Level 4 Ladybird books (she took in Heidi and read it to her class yesterday) and I need to think of what to buy her next (we are in France so no school library in English yet).

I've bought a few Young Reading Series 1] but she isn't quite there. My DD prefers to read simple versions of Fairy Tales (I have read her many, many Fairy Tales over the years) and factual books about ballet and horses.

Usborne Young Reading Series 1

Hi my dd is on new way yellow parallel books, I can't seem to find anywhere her reading age. Can anyone help. Thank you.

These are horrid books a while back DS was given a blue new way with a story about a man tying a tiger to a tree, coming back 'with a weapon' and beating the tiger black and blue! For reception children!

There is also no punctuation which makes it very hard to understand when reading aloud.
