What is a 2 step problem?

I really think schools should produce a guide to "new maths" terms!!

DS came home from school and announced that he had been doing "2 step problems" in numeracy. When I asked what they were he (completely straight faced, no sarcasm) replied that they were "problems that had 2 steps". Apparently they have been told they might move on to "3 step problems" if they get the hang of them. (I'm guessing those are problems that have 3 steps Grin )

I have no clue what they are ... I am thinking something like "you buy 12 apples for 5p each and pay with a £1 coin. How much change would you get?" Someone please confirm or deny I am on the right lines ...

Yep, exactly the right lines.

Yes, you are spot on. In your example the first step is calculating the total shop, the second step is calculating the change.

Although after 2 step problems they are called 'multi-step' problems!!

I do agree about the terms and i am a teacher!

My latest new word was congruent!
