for my son today was the first positive one ever. He has adhd, which was diagnosed at the end of last Summer Term in Y5. At that time he was working at level 2a/3c acroos the board. Fast forward to now, and he has achieved Level 4as in everything instead! I am so proud of him, and now we have started new medication (last one had side effects, and I was gutted as it had worked so well), I feel so much more relaxed about secondary school next year.

So this is just a proud mummy OP, I'm sorry!

What a long wait. You must be so relieved at having a dignosis and medication, and a good parents evening too. Congratulations. Enjoy the proud mummy time!

Thank you! I know it was an indulgent thread! (Small cat may have had rather too many pancakes as a result! Grin )

Well done to your DS.
Have the school changed their approach as a result of the diagnosis?

Catnao · 08/03/2011 20:32

No, not really, they have always been good (they are my colleagues, which doesn't necessarily mean I am impressed by them as default! Grin) But they have - for the samll cat, it has been the medication that has allowed him to focus and achieve in class that has been key, and why I was so worried when the first kind aggravated his asthma and badly affected his appetite so (a small child anyway) he was losing weight hand over fist.

New meds great so far although very new, so fingers crossed.

Just wanted to add - my son has been so positively affected by medication, although it has taken a while to get the right one (hope the new one is it!!) That if anyone is worried about medicating after diagnosis (as we were, hugely - these are scary drugs!) then am happy to PM experience here and link to consultant's website).

Well done to your lovely ds. I hope the move to secondary goes really well for you both. :)

Aww, that's great. It's so good to hear the 'success' stories on here as so many of us spend our days worried sick about our kids. Well done to your ds! We haven't taken the medication route for our ds, also adhd, but i am keeping an open mind for the future.
