DS is in reception and I want to print something out for him as teacher says he needs help with letter formation.

Is there a letters and sounds font that's free?

Hmm... not sure why you think you might have to pay. There are loads of different letter fonts on computer word processors that are all free. Comic Sans is a good one as it's quite easy to read.

However, if he needs help with letter formation he'll probably much prefer more fun practice methods such as forming letters in sand/paint with his finger etc. Do it with him so he can see which way the letters go.

hope I've understood your question correctly :)

The teacher should be able to give you a sheet with direction arrows for each letter. You can then trace over each letter.

We use sassoon primary infant font in school.

and you have to pay for all sassoon fonts

not many schools teach children to form letters in the same way as comic sans although it is a clear font

this one is free

You really need to ask the school for a copy of what they teach. It would not be helpful for you to be doing one thing and for the school to be doing it another way.

Sassoon Primary font does seem popular but it will cost.

I agree with mullymummy. He's in reception. Make it fun. My DS2 loves it when I put shaving foam on the shower screen in the bath and he can write in it with his fingers. He practised all his number formation this way and improved in a couple of weeks.
I should point out that if you pursue this idea it is wise to buy some 'value' shaving foam rather than use DH's posh stuff. We did this initially and it was not appreciated. Whoops.
