I have read about when they are taking place but am unsure as to when we find out how our DCs have done.
Am guessing it will be sometime before they break up for the summer or does it vary between areas?
I tried using the search function but for some reason it kept closing my computer down
Hmm

It varies from school to school. If they haven't done the tests yet is can be any time from now until June

mankyscotslass · 04/03/2011 17:42

Our Ks 2 sats are May.

We don't get told the results until we get the end of summer term reports, usually the last full week of the school year!

mrz · 04/03/2011 17:45

KS2 SaTs are May but the OP asked about Y2 which don't have a fixed date.

Thank you for your quick replies, DD is my first so am still unsure about how a lot of this works although I am finding mn very useful

Thanks again

The levels your DC attained are usually on their written end of year report.

mrz · 04/03/2011 18:01

Your daughter will be continually assessed by her teacher all year and this assessment will determine her NC level at the end of the year not the tests which are only done to confirm the teacher's view.

mankyscotslass · 04/03/2011 18:06

Sorry, I lost the YR2 bit off my post, I did mean my KS1 year 2 sats! Blush

mankyscotslass · 04/03/2011 18:12

And the test is only to consolidate the teachers assessment.

Our school always seems to do the actual paper in May.

mrz · 04/03/2011 18:19

Some schools like to do both at the same time (plus optional KS2 SATs in Y3-5) I don't like the idea of a week of tests for 6-7 year olds would rather spread them out.

mogmum · 04/03/2011 21:12

Its a lot for 6 and 7 year olds though isnt it? Hopefully my DD will be ok though,
If I dont get too stressed about them then hopefully she wont pick up on it.Smile

Thanks again for all your replies, I normally only lurk on here so its nice to talk to you at last

It should be done in an non threatening way ...

pinkgirlythoughts · 05/03/2011 09:58

We usually do ours over a two week period, makes it less stressful for the children than having a week of tests, like mrz said.
We try to make it as un-scary as possible, and talk a lot beforehand about the 'special work' they are going to be doing (we never refer to them as tests, or even as SATs, in front of the children, as some with experience of older brothers and sisters doing 'tests' find that phrasing somewhat upsetting), and when they aren't doing a test, they're either doing fun activities in the school hall, led by the head teacher, or outside having extra playtime to burn off steam. I think a lot of the children seem to enjoy doing them!

AbigailS · 05/03/2011 10:25

I've already started my SATs with Year 2. They are really excited that they are grown up enough to have a special maths book now (they don't know it's a test book!Wink)
I've started the reading tasks, which is one-to-one reading with the teacher, but with 30 children it will take me quite some time to get through them all and I doubt I will finish these before May.
One of the writing tasks is complete and sitting on my dining room table for marking this and next weekend.
Every school will approach this differently. I was disussing it with a teacher at a nearby school who was fretting about fitting it all in after Easter as the term is so short and there are lots of bank holidays.
I've had a couple of parents talk to me about it as they are booking a fortnight's holiday around May half term and will be taking children out of school for the week before the break. They were worried / hoping it would effect their testing. No chance!

Feenie · 05/03/2011 10:33

affect their testing (sorry!)

AbigailS · 05/03/2011 10:38

Whoops - watching football training through the car window at the same time!

Grin
AbigailS · 05/03/2011 10:46

Should I feel guilty I'm not out on the touchline with other parents? It's bl####y cold out there! I really should be doing some school work, but this is far more interesting. I think I'm on work avoidance.

Feenie · 05/03/2011 10:51

Warm and cosy in the car would win for me, I think!
