im thinking of moving to the area .my daughter at present goes to a grade 1 outstanding school in a very wealthy area ,from looking at ofsted reports in boscombe ,the best report i can find is catholic & i wouldnt be eligable .she would be entering at end of year 5 or start of year 6 .most of the schools only seem to be grade3 ofsted standard - does anyone have any views or reccomendations pls ?

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

No specific recommendations I'm afraid, just to say that Boscombe is quite a socially deprived area. That's not to say you wouldn't be able to find a school that works for you there, but I imagine it might be quite different to what you're used to.

I'd definetly visit schools before you make a final decision and get a feel for them yourself. It mighbt be that you decide to look further a field and move to an area just a few miles one way or the other as, like many cities, the areas within Bournemouth can vary hugely in just a few miles.

Sorry I can't be more specific! Maybe post on mn local?

thankyou medoitmama ,

im moving for a new life ,unfortunately unless you have buckets of money which i dont ,its going to be a compromise ,it may be deprived area but its very close to town centre ,has 7miles of beach & a uni .
so unless Bath can be moved to the beach ,ive got to compromise !
hopefully i will be able to drive soon & take her to whatever school i like .

I think I know the catholic school you are talking about. If there was a space they would take you, Catholicism is used as a criteria for over-subscription. There are non-Catholics there.

That said, it most definitely is a religious school, with class prayers every morning and school mass several times a term etc.

The teachers are lovely and keen. It currently has an acting head so I guess there may be changes coming. Their pastoral care is pretty good.

If you are happy with the religious aspects it may be worth seeing if they have a space.

i did speak to them & they told me there was a waiting list which i can only assume will have catholics ,higher up than me - as she told me to go private !

No, sorry. I don't actually live near Bournemouth, but my SIL teaches at Corpus Christi, my niece went there and I know lots of the staff through SIL.
