Hello

I'll join, my d day is 24th April, I'm not at all looking forward to getting the letter. There are two infant schools near me 1 good 1 not so good, but the good 1 is out of catchment, dd goes there, it wasn't oversubscribed when she started, but because a school in the area was closed and 100s of new houses put up and then an outstanding ofsted it is now oversubscribed. Siblings do not get priorty. I'm praying hard ds gets a place,

mrsscoob · 03/03/2011 09:19

Hi, I will joint too! I am happy with my choices and think I will probably get my first as I live very close by, I still can't help being nervous though and just want to find out for sure!

mrsscoob · 03/03/2011 09:21

obviously I meant join not joint, the Wine will be enough for me!

mumof2girls2boys · 03/03/2011 10:06

Hi, I'll join you all. My DD should get her place, she has an older brother at the school, it's out of catchment but when talking to the admin lady yesterday she said as far as she knew they didn't have a full class anyhow. Bit strange here as siblings come first on the list, then catchment children, worried me if they were full, how would people feel who got given a school they didn't want and knew that I was there with my out of catchment child. Also the older one goes off to prep school in September so he won't actually be a sibling at the school when she starts. Hope you all get what you want :)

IAPJJLPJ · 03/03/2011 11:28

mumof2girls2boys - so when your DD starts in September, will she be the only one attending that school? The reason I ask is because in my area to apply on "sibling link" they have to be attending the same school at the same time.

lollyheart - siblings do not get priority in my DS school either so I too am very very concerned. In fact it number 5 on the admission criteria. How can you possibly be able to be at two different schools???

so stressed already!!

Luckily DS will pretty much definitely get in as his sister is already there and it is the closest school to us. I think our allocation day is 1st April so not long to wait.

I am, however, crapping myself at the fact that he is just 4 and nowhere near potty trained. Nightmare!

Good luck to you all. Hope you get the schools you want :)

IAPJJLPJ · 03/03/2011 11:35

My allocation day is so late compared to everyone else! What areas are you in?

Our day is 15th April - yours does seem very late!

Schnullerbacke · 03/03/2011 22:12

At least you all had a chance to put your favourite schools down. We won't be moving to our new area until May / June so guess we'll be left on the scrapyard......

kattyo · 03/03/2011 22:34

Sometime in April. Beginning, I think. Probably then because so many people don't get their first place or even a place at all, and then scrabble for a place at the least worst left over school.
Can't say I'm looking forward to it.

And how did we get to this point so FAST?????

IAPJJLPJ · 04/03/2011 06:26

Schnullerbacke - which county are you moving to? Maybe someone on here who is familiar with that area could give you pointers on the different schools???

IAPJJLPJ I phoned up the admissions people myself, thinking this was a little strange and they said as long as he was on the schools role when the offer of places come out then it was ok. The fact that siblings come above everything else was also a little strange. I guess they are going on the fact that you can't be in 2 places at once, which has always been an issue for us with 4 DCs. The reason they won't be in the same school is that he is moving onto prep school, we haven't officially told the school yet (they do know) as he has to go for a trial day before the prep school officially accepts him.

Schnullerbacke once you have an address you should be able to apply, i.e. once you have exchanged contracts on house, or signed rental agreement.

AbbyLou · 06/03/2011 13:08

I'm 3rd May too so you're not the only one. I hope to get my offer by email on that date.
I have lived in fear about the application since I did it. The school I want dd to go to is the school I teach in where ds already goes. When he started the school wasn't full but we got an outstanding Ofsted and it is now over-subscribed. We live out of catchment but dd already goes to Nursery there and the childminder they both go to only picks up from there. Teaching there myself offers no benefit unfortunately. I do not know what I will do if she doesn't get a place. I will have to find a new childminder and leave the house even earlier in the morning to go to two places, dd will have to leave all her friends at Nursery and her adored childminder, the children will be at different school and I have no idea where she would end up as I only put the one choice down. Catchment area is first here followed by looked after children then siblings. I am just praying that all the places aren't filled by children in the catchment area.

Eddas · 06/03/2011 13:24

our date is 31st March (I think) ds should be ok as dd is there and we live in the village but I just want to actually know for sure, then I can get on and plan Blush

tigerlion1 · 06/03/2011 13:39

We find out on May 3rd too.

AbbyLou, how do you find having your ds at the school you teach at? Our first choice for our dd is at the school I teach.

Even though we're not in catchment, I'm fairly confident she'll get a place (not just because I teach there though - no special treatment!).

AbbyLou · 07/03/2011 21:52

It's always worked well for me tiger. Ds started at a childminder near my school at 5 months old when I went back so it was just easiest for him to go to my school - and I think it is a lovely school!! He went to the Nursery first at just 3 and then transferred to the school. He is a very laid back character and it has never bothered him. It is only an Infant school though so he won't have to put up with his mum there when he is older! He is actually in the year group I teach now and I do have him for 20 mins a day for Letters and Sounds. He is fine with it and so am I. Dd is now in the Nursery. Admissions for that are different so she got a place easily. I cannot bear the thought of her not getting a place. She will be devastated if you she has to be seperated from her friends.

mumoverseas · 08/03/2011 12:26

Apparently we find out on 1st April online. I feel like our lives are on hold at the moment as DH working abroad and I'm abroad a lot of the time and waiting to find if DD has a place before DH makes a decision on handing his notice in and finding a job back home.

IAPJJLPJ · 08/03/2011 19:57

I find it ridiculous that I have to wait over a month later for my school
