Link/comment book in reception

Just wondered if any of you who have a child in reception have some kind of communication book between school and home? A lot of my friends who's kids go to different schools have link book or reading comment book. So when the child reads to the teacher in school the teacher writes a comment in the book how child got on. The book is sent home and when the child reads at home the parents write a comment how they got on at home.
I feel there is such a lack of communication in my daughter's school. Just wondered what it is like in other schools.

We have a reading diary. We have to fill it in everytime DS reads a schoolbook at home. They only get changed if we've written in the book.

We have organisers where parents record reading done at home or anything else that you feel may be relevant, likewise teacher writes in when listened to individually or in guided reading. Works really well, but the emphasis at my DCs school is that it is the children's responsibility to show the teacher when a comment has been written by parents.

Same as Fruitstick.

I am a TA at my sons' school and we write comments about reading/sound books. Tis a good way of getting feedback from home and for them to know that we do read with their child!

DD has a parent comment book, but I wrote something in it and it wasn't looked at for a month. She also has a reading record which we and teachers write in when we listen to her read. We are also given a (school) email address for the teacher which so far she has always replied to within an hour or two. We are told not to try to speak to teachers at the end of the day unless it's urgent as they have work to carry on with, of course some parents still do.

Have reading diary where comments about reading are made. Responded to pretty well. Very easy to see teacher after school - will see me that day unless club or staff meeting, otherwise next day. Open policy towards seeing books. Don't really look though- feel there's nit much to hide. And parents grumble about communication at our school. Think they want telepathy!!

We used to use a reading book to record what was read and how book was read, etc but teacher never ever looked at it.

I used to detail book, fluency, accuracy, what words couldnt be read, confidence, words recognised from spot checks, similies, difficult words that were read etc. comments made by child, whether good or boring book, childs views. I also recorded other books read at home.

Over the top I agree it was a great tool for me because I was able to track the improvements over time.

And it didnt matter what I wrote in it because the teacher never reviewed it
