Query on school offer

Hi, a really dull question but to which I cannot find the answer in official sources and I hope someone may know: at which point of the application process for a primary school place does one need to live in the school's catchment area? We have applied for a school in which catchment area we currently live but we are considering moving to another borough over the summer. I believe they offer the places in April and we'll still definitely be here then but may move before September. Will the school ask for proof of our address at the start of the school year in September and withdraw the offer when it turns out we're no longer in the catchment area or once we're offered the place in the spring that's it and we don't need to worry? I don't mind my kid going to a local school in the new area - in fact I'd prefer it - but there's obviously no guarantee we get a place for him there and the last thing I want is to lose the place at our local current school - which by the way would be commutable from our new home - without having a good alternative. Thanks for your advice.

I think it may vary between areas, Ania. I moved house last March, so applied in my old area. Then, when we moved, I applied as soon as we were resident and was treated as a late applicant. In both cases, I had to provide evidence of residence at the point of application (Council tax number, I think).

As long as you were living at the address when you submitted your application and are still living there when the offer is made you are safe. The LA cannot withdraw the offer just because you move out of catchment.

That's great news - and thanks for your responses.
