....ds1 has been in his new school since Nov. He enjoys it and is making progress.

However, he is supposed to get 30 mins 1-1 with a TA on a friday afternoon to help with his literacy and its just not happening....maybe 4 times since he started?

His teacher and TA seem very nice and are pleased with his progress and I dont want to come across as a PITA - how so I approach this subject tactfully and ask why this provision is not being provided consistently?

The school have been great wrt ds1....he was home schooled for most of last year and they were really supportive when he joined - he had a staged return, for example.

thanks!

Check that they aren't happening first! I do 1-to-1 with a few children but it won't be on the same day each week if the timetable for the class has been switched around or if it can be more productively at another time.. Also I sometimes work at a group table but only assisting the one child, so it might not be obvious to the child that they are being supported.

Is he still behind with his literacy? Does he still need the 1:1?
Friday afternoons are not the easiest time to give extra literacy help in a primary school - PT TAs often have the afternoon off, and there's golden time.....
Did you set up a programme for the help? is it something you could do at home?

hmm....good point hocus I do ask ds1 when if he saw Mrs today and he always says "no".

Will make vague enquiries on tuesday! Smile

stoats Its something he does at school...not sure what they do tbh. He has been assessed and they have "no concerns" but told me he has "gaps" in his knowledge.

I am doing Headsprout (headsprout.com) at home with him at the moment and his school reading books that he brings home.

He is doing well and his confidence is growing. He has gone up 3 reading levels since Nov so they are obviously doing something right Smile The reading levels are not the same as his old school which only used ORT. This school uses lots of different schemes (eg: ORT, Ginn, Heinemann, tiddlywinks etc) and give them coloured and numbered levels...so now he is on level green 12. I have no idea what this means or what he "should" be on...another thing I will be asking about!!

I must admit I did wonder at the friday afternoon seesion tbh but his name is on the list for 1.30-2 on fridays, I have seen it.

Chances are they are not doing it.

They will never admit that to you, but that's OK. Mention it, and it is more likely to happen next term.....

Hope so indigo.

He is happy and is making progress so I dont want to rock the boat IYSWIM?

How are things with you?
