Hi,
I am moving in the area and want to know which school is better - APS or Hale Prep? I've visited both and am bit confused which one to choose.

Thanks

I know what you mean about the APS head. My son goes there and is happy but I was unsure after my meeting with the head. I remember him saying something about boys should be able to deal with bullying as there is always alot of pushing and shoving in a boys school. I just found him rather odd. I also found it rather off putting having to pay a fee to register your interest prior to being allowed to visit the school or meet the headteacher. Once you join, they are very quick to send multiple letters asking for deposits and fees which was in stark contrast to other schools(eg BPS). However, the techers are great and we haven't encountered any problems. I have heard rumours that they are changing the way they prepare on grammer entrance exams as they are now in direct competion with MGS juniors?

Thank you all. Decided APS and very happy with the choice so far.

My son is at APS and he absolutely loves it. I don't recall paying a fee before meeting the head, I just paid a small amount to register interest. From an admin (fees) perspective they are very efficient but that's also how the whole school is run.....so that's no bad thing. Bear in mind, there is no state funding so to run the school to such a high standard, prompt payments are relied upon. The Head is very much a "boys' boy" and is keen to teach the boys how to be good young men. I suppose that can come across as a bit gung-ho but be assured that the school does not tolerate bad behaviour/bullying, they're just honest about what boys are like when they're together. There also lots of male teaching staff which is so rare in primaries. I can see how more timid boys may struggle to settle into a boisterous environment, but they would probably struggle in any school - and the teachers are all very sensitive to the individual needs of each child. If younger children need reassurance then they always get it. Absolutely cannot praise this school highly enough.

Moving to manchester in summer. Anyone have opinions between Bowdon Prep and Man High Prep for ds? My ds is a bit timid, not quite self-motivated - more able than she thinks! Ideally wld like aggs as secondary school, but not want her to miss out on likelihood of man high if she not get aggs.

Bowdon prep has very good reputation and all moms swear by it. Man high is bit difficult to get in and more flashy - its my impression from hear say. But for a timid girl, B Prep will be very fine .

Hi. Am considering this school for my son, currently in year 4. Can anyone please give me an idea of fees so that I know whether it is a non-starter, or not. Thanks

phonecall2 · 20/10/2012 21:37

Hi Josarm. fees are around £6500 a year at APS. Lots of info on here: www.altprep.co.uk

Hi- we are wondering the same thing. My son is in the infant dept at St Ambrose Prep and want to move him to another local prep for the Junior department- any recommendations?

happypeople · 22/05/2013 09:39

Does anyone know the pass rate of any of local preps for the Altrincham Grammar boys exam? 20% of Alty Prep boys failed it, which I am getting worried about. Thanks

Absworld can I just ask why you are looking to move away from st ambrose for juniors? My son is due to start reception sept 13.
