Pre-prep text books - recommendations?

My DD has been taught phonics using the Jelly & Bean series and I really like the Galore Park Junior English series. But what comes in between? Whose pre-prep is using really fab textbooks?

DS's school use the Ruth Miskin Read Write Inc scheme which seems to work well.

Info here.

Thanks anniemac. She's on the cusp of reading to herself and I need inspiration!

Alan Ahlberg's Happy Families are great for the early reader gang. Walker books have a good series just for this use. Dick King Smith's early readers are fab (Hodgeheg, Jenius, George Talks etc). DS2 is wrestling with Jack Stalwart - I think they are a little out of his reach still, but he seems to find it inspiring.
It is a tricky point, when you have fought your way out of Biff and Chip and want to get them launched on having lots of words on the page.
DS1 found the Astrosaur series great once he had made that leap to chapter books.
I find mix and match works well too - I'll read this chapter, but you read the first 2 pages.
Also, Mog books work well, having good level of vocab and some familiarity - helps to wean them off the reading schemes.

I Am Reading books are great chapter books - nicely spaced out print, a 'proper' letter 'a', bright colourful pictures and funny stories. They seem to come with an audio CD as well now.

Read Write inc is a complete phonics scheme, not a set of reading books.

stoatsrevenge - yes, that is what I'm looking for! Not for readers (though those could be useful too).
