dd is in a small class, not many other girls. two girls in particular are constantly being paired up and pushed together by their mums, (at lining up time, in the playground, always being told to hold hands). obviously their mums are best mates, but it seems a bit unfair on the other girls as it basically writes off half the girls in dds' class in terms of making friends.

To top it all, both these mums came up to me in the space of two minutes and told me (in front of dd) that their kids wouldn't be able to make it to dd's party (I sent the invites out in plenty of time etc). this was in the space of two minutes. Does this seem weird to anyone else or is it just me?

What age group are they? If it's older than Reception or maybe Year 1, it is very odd indeed. do the girls mix with the others when their parents are not about (I'm guessing probably yes). Are the two girls lacking in confidence? (have been guilty of encouraging DD to hold best friend's hand when she is having a wobbly moment).

Not "particularly" odd that they can't make your DD's party - there is always a few that can't IME. If they are close friends, maybe they already have a party/wedding/other planned day with a mutual friend?
