Does a child improve?

Hi everyone. My daughter seems intelligent and everyone thinks so, but her standardised scores at aged 7 were below average, 95 in maths and 89 in literacy last year. We have worked so hard since then and she has really really improved in my opinion. What I need to know is, have any of your children or children you know gone from 'concerning' to 'great' in a space of a few years. Am thinking about the 11 plus. We do lots of work with our children, inpsiring them to want to learn, reading books to them, but we are not really pushy although it is always on my mind to support them. Please help.

those scores aren't below average

Meant to say...not so concerned with Maths....Reading is my concern, it was 14 months below her actual age.

And sorry, apparently your scores need to be 115 for a Grammar school place, is this right? I am still learning!!!

what tests did you get those scores from?

princessparty · 15/02/2011 23:10

I don'tknow but education is a marathon not a sprin.DS1 was on the bottome tables for everything at that age- now at Grammar school sitting GCSEs this year and predicted all A/A*

Well, in Northern Ireland we do tests in P3, age 6-7. These are computer based tests and we were given the scores last June. They are called Incas tests.

What tests were these? Were they CAT tests? If so, I don't think they are below average at all.

And the 11÷ varies from aqrea to area - could you tell us a bit more about the tests and roughly where you live?

Princessparty...that is really what I need to here, thank you so much. Hope your son does well.

Seeker....they are graded with CAT think. Was told 100 was average and anything under that is therefore below average. Told that a child needs to be scoring 115 plus for grammar school....but my child is only 8....therefore I am wondering she can work hard and jump up. Am so delighted are all responding, have not spoken to anyone about this. This is my first ever post.
