Hill House from SW2 anyone? Is it a nightmare journey?

We loved Hill House when we looked round but it seems rather a crazy journey to school and back every day. Wondering if and how anyone does it from the SW2 area. Any feedback welcome......

My old neighbour used to do the journey to Hill House from Kilburn and ended up moving out of London as the traffic on the school run drove her insane - I suspect it would be even worse from SW2, but good luck!

It would work well if you're on the 137 bus route (and prepared to leave pretty early in the mornings).

basildonbond · 04/02/2011 18:34

I think you would go slowly mad (or maybe quickly Grin)

it would also seem a bit daft in that you'd be passing dozens of schools just as good or maybe better than Hill House on the way

Its pretty much equidistant from Sloane Square, Knightsbridge and South Kensington tube stations, but really depends where your coming from.

sparebear · 05/02/2011 12:02

Bambi I fear you are are right! But I keep hoping someone will send a msg saying.......'it's fine, we do it every day no problem!'
Aaaaah my head tells me it's a crazy idea!

where abouts are you coming from? :o

not1not2 · 05/02/2011 13:14

I'm sure I've seen one or maybe 2 do it on the 137 they were kids at the older end of the age range so don't know that they had been doing it when little

onimolap · 05/02/2011 13:30

The good thing about the 137 is that you just get on it and sit there until you arrive, and as SW2 is near the start of the route, you'd be pretty sure of getting a seat (doing homework, reading etc en route!)

The snag is that it's a long journey and goes through choke points like Acre Lane and Chelsea Bridge. Chelsea Flower how week is always slow, and with Albert Brigde out of action, anything that hits the embankment area or the other nearby bridges can have a big effect. Hence the need to allow oodles of time.

This may mean you arrive very early, and find that all the money you save in by choosing a school at the lower end of London fees gets immediately eaten up in coffee shops whilst you kill time.

sparebear · 05/02/2011 18:34

Bambi we are just off Brixton hill.
Onimolap you are a font of knowledge! Think I will do the trip to see just how possible/impossible it will be at rush hour. Yup totally get your point about the coffees could easily spend a couple of grand a year on lattes! (smile)

Not to mention all the shopping you'll do along the King's Road whilst you're waiting to pick up...... It's a school with hidden costs.

Oh god I'm soo stupid, your thread title just clicked! Thought you were getting mixed up and saying Hill House was in SW2. Doh.

allag · 10/02/2011 14:33

any more thoughts on this sparebear? :) i am now having serious second thoughts - after paying the deposit of course!!!! (aarrggh) - about getting to South Ken from Battersea every morning. It is those bridges. Not sure if we have made a big mistake, committing to crossing the river every morning. Sad

My daughter's starting Small School this year, and we're in Stockwell. At the moment I'm planning to take her by bicycle, or tube to Victoria then 170 bus. I know they have a school bus, but I don't think it goe south of the river. I've emailed to ask where it does go, in the hope it passes by Pimlico tube or something. When I find out, I'll post here.

PoliticalMumof2 · 25/08/2012 07:11

Wigsy,

Did you ever find out the route of the school bus goes? My DD starts small school in a few days, and I JUST found out my move to C. London has been delayed by 1 month! I need a plan.....AND FAST. Does it go by Victoria?

Michaelahpurple · 27/08/2012 23:43

Surely you have lots of good schools your side of the river? Newton prep an Thomas's near the river but surely others nearer too (broom wood house? - don't know the area too well). It is all very personal but I don't think Jill house is worth building in so much agony for. It is also very Chelsea - nearly all his/her school chums would be local to the school and no one will be willing to go home to you for playmates. How about the junior bit of the Eaton House group on the common?
