My dd is in Yr1 - she was reading Ginn 360 level 7 books. This week she has moved to "shelf 1". I queried it with the teacher this morning and shelf 1 contains a mixture of story books and small chapter books. I asked if that meant she'd finished with the reading scheme books and she said "yes, there is no level 8".
I'm slightly concerned that it seems very early to have stopped formal progression of reading skills - on the other hand I am very glad to see the back of the awful Ginn books.
I joined the reading chest for her as the school books were so dire, and she is reading "gold level" at the moment. These seem harder than the Ginn books but still seem to progress in a logical fashion.
Should I be concerned that the school seem to have moved her off the reading scheme at the grand age of 5.9, or just go with it?
