We are in the process of looking for schools for our dd. Can anyone recommend and good private/independent schools in central Exeter ?Also,if your children attended these schools, what were their experiences/ opinions ?
Thanks!

Thanks for your reply Duchesse. I will definately visit both. Bramdean now has Kindergarten where they take kids from 3 years old.

Do you know anyone who has sent their child there ?

Hi. I know people who have sent their children to MC. Its not technically a school, its a family trust so there is NO board of governers. Like earlier thread some good staff and some not. One friend who went to view was told they have an olympic size pool when infact they go to the local swimming pool!!
Nursery is ok as they are monitored by ofsted, middle school and secondary I would never reccomend.
Hoep this helps.

I went to The Maynard School (many many years ago) and totally loved it there - the memories I took away with me was a real feeling of a close community - they really bring out the best in you - and one thing I personally loved was the fact there was never any bitchiness with the girls - although there were of course friendship groups, everyone was friendly and inclusive. It goes without saying the school is academic and always has been - the results speak for themselves - but actually one of the reasons I went was the wide variety of music activities I could get involved in (also drama) and sport - I was by no means I high achiever naturally (but very hard working ) and the school really got the best out of my and gave me a great start in life. If i still lived in exeter I would certainly be trying to get my DD into Maynards ... however im probably very biased by my experience! Good luck

Marking my place on this thread as it looks like we'll be moving down there his summer with my 2.5 yr DD. Thanks everyone for the tips so far.

I see that there hasn't been a post for some time on this topic but wanted to let any interested parties know how delighted my children and I have been with the Maynard School in Exeter. My youngest (now in lower 6th) came to the Maynard at 8yrs old. She had never enjoyed school and would much rather have been at home, however, the Maynard staff have certainly inspired her, held her interest and she is now absolutely loving 6th form, is studying 3 sciences and history (I truly believe had she been at a co-ed school she may not have been so confident with science subjects). My eldest daughter also attended the Maynard and is now studying Aerospace engineering, thanks in part to the Maynard school instilling in their pupils such an amazing work ethic. I have to say I would certainly send my children there again and would recommend the school to any mother of girls.

Magdalen Court School has been great for my 4 daughters. 2 are still there, 2 at University, one graduates this year in Criminology & the other is reading Sports & Nutrition. The 4 of them have loved MCS.
It most definitely is a school, which is run by a Family trust. The Family ethos is one of the strengths of the school. The teaching staff send there children to the school, which I think is a really good measure of a school. Teachers know a lot about education & what makes a good school.
