Hello, we are planning to move to K&C soon (from a small village in the Cotswolds) and were looking for primary schools in the area (pre-prep). My friend is taking her daughter to Hampshire school and she is very happy. I also have a friend that is taking her kids to Queens Gate and St Phillips but the kids don't look to be very proud of their respective schools. Will be visiting some next week, but any advice will really appreciate

I take my kids to Hampshire and I'm extremely happy with the type of education they are receiving and the academic level. Let me know if you have any specific question

missfairlie · 31/01/2011 20:51

whereabouts in K&C?

missfairlie · 31/01/2011 20:52

by the way also look at the SW3 thread if that's your proposed neighbourhood.

We are going to live between SW3 and SW7. I have an appointment this week to see Hampshire, Thomas's and Hill House. Very interesting thread the sw3 one. Thanks!

which ones are you visiting? are you looking for co-ed or single sex schools? check out Eaton Square School and Knightsbridge school, there is also Garden House School, all of them are co ed.

KateE01 · 01/02/2011 10:18

We prefer co-ed, but will also consider single sex if there are no options in co-ed (we have one boy and one girl and believe is better co-ed, as life itself is co-ed!). We have some friends that were at Eaton Square and left as they were not happy there, but any other views are welcome. I'll check Knightsbridge school. Garden House is in our Tier 2 list as my understanding is that the classes are single sex, is that correct?. Thanks a lot for your help!

Garden H do teach them seperately. We are at Cameron House, co-ed 4-11 and v good. Hill House is co-ed, also Newton Prep and the Thomas's group.

good luck

My son used to go to Hampshire and move to a fantastic secondary school. My daughter is still there and she is very, very happy there. I consider it a wonderful school with a fantastic atmosphere and excellent academic results

Thanks a lot to all of you. I went to see a couple of them and I defenetely liked Hampshire. Talked to some mums that were around and saw how happy the children are... I just hope the assesment goes well!!!. Have more to visit next week just in case!

hi all
sorry to keep asking everywhere but does is anyone familiar with queen's gate at all? it is single sex but we are considering it for our DD and need to make a decision quickly. I must say i really liked what I saw - a very small and individual school which takes academics seriously but also wants to develop the child's strengths whatever they are - but i haven't come across anyone with first hand experience. any thougths greatly appreciated.

allag · 03/02/2011 22:23

PS KateEo1, best of luck with your assessment at Hampshire - we are going in there early next week as well. It sounds lovely.

sanam2010 · 05/02/2011 21:05

Kate, can you tell me why your friends took their kids out of Eaton Square? I have no personal experience with the school, just thought the afterschool clubs on offer looked great! But would be good to hear from someone with actual experience.

Let us know how the visits go! After months of procrastinating I am planning to make some calls next week and arrange visits.

KateE01 · 06/02/2011 16:17

Sanam - My kids take kids out of Eaton Square as they thought the academic level was good enough and, at the same time, it is not focus on sports. Not my own experience, just my friend's experience

Two of my children (boy & girl) are at Garden House. A boy moved to the school from Eaton Square last year as his parents were not happy with a lot about ES, I think they were concerned about general standards of behaviour as well as an exceptionally high turnover of pupils, though often because of travel rather than because parents where dissatisfied. The incoming boy was significantly behind academically, which may or may not be typical.

We have been very happy with Garden House. Children are taught in single sex groups for the majority of the curriculum but have many opportunities to get together. The school heads argue very convincingly that this is the perfect model - certainly a view point worth listening too. I would highly recommend that you see the school for yourself.

Best of luck with your search and whatever you choose.

Thanks a lot to all. The assessment at Hampshire went well and my kids will be going there. It's amazing the support I'm receiving so far from the school, so far so good!
